Default Norwegian Wind to Asia

Star Cruises, the Leading Cruise Line in Asia-Pacific, today announces the positioning of the latest addition to its fleet, SuperStar Aquarius to Hong Kong after the completion of her season in Hawai’i in Spring 2007. Now known as Norwegian Wind, the 50,760-gross tonne cruise ship will be the largest and most modern to be sailing on regular cruises out of Hong Kong in 2007. The ship has been extensively refurbished, remodeled and expanded in 1998.

The arrival of SuperStar Aquarius will undoubtedly provide a fresh cruise experience in the Hong Kong and Asian markets as the 2,000 passenger capacity vessel with her stylish design, will be offering a greater choice of outlets and facilities, bigger cabins and suites and a host of exciting onboard features that will be customised to suit Asian tastes.

This latest addition will enable Star Cruises to further consolidate its lead in growing the cruise market in Hong Kong where Star Cruises has been operating since 1994. This is in line with the strategy of continuing with the expansion of its Asian fleet with more modern and medium-sized capacity vessels in order to meet growing demand in Asia.

“Being the first to offer year-round cruises in Asia and our understanding of Asian cruiser tastes has provided us with the confidence of being able to deliver according to expectations. Winning the "Best Cruise Operator in Asia-Pacific" award for a record eighth time is testimony to that understanding?, said Mr. Chong Chee-Tut, Star Cruises’ Chief Operating Officer. “The introduction of this large and modern cruise ship to Hong Kong will appeal to a market that has come to expect a product of a certain level of standard from Asia’s leading cruise line?.

The SuperStar Aquarius has sailed all over the world as the Norwegian Wind under Norwegian Cruise Line including Europe, Alaska, Hawai’i , Asia and Australia/New Zealand. In Hong Kong, shewill offer daily one-night and weekly destination cruises. Details of the itineraries will be announced shortly.

The introduction of SuperStar Aquarius, will bring the total to three ships positioned in Hong Kong, including Star Pisces and Wasa Queen operating under the Star Cruises and Cruise Ferries brands respectively.

Measuring 230 metres long and 28.6 metres wide, she has a wide range of restaurants featuring a selection of cuisine from around the world, bars and lounges – each with a style all its own - meeting facilities and 2 swimming pools. I wonder what renovations Star will make in order to accommodate the Asian market, such as increasing the size of the casino and buffet area.

The Asian cruises are highly geared toward gambling and they also are not as inclusive as North American cruises. It is a more Al e Carte type cruise with passengers in lower end cabins paying for their food and passengers in higher end cabins having it included in their fare.

It will be interesting but at least The Wind will have a new home with the Parent Company.

Take care,
Mike
