Default Norwegain Jewel MED cRUISE- A FEW TIPS!! (WE WENT 6TH JUNE )

tipping: you are under no legal obligation to join the gratuities scheme- this works out at $140 per couple per weekBUT!! you can only fill in a form at reception on Fridays - they dont advertise the fact!- in our experience the staff were not all the same- some only wanted responses to 'have a nice day' type questions , if you had an issue on something they had not been trained on they didnt want to know- We prefered to do our own tipping to those that did.
Shows- get a seat close to the front of the theatre or in the balcony, they let people in after the start- and it spoils the experience.
Transport- if you are cruise only- dont be conned into $20 per person airport transfers its only Euro 25.00 for a private taxi and it takes 10 minutes not 45 as NCL state.
Drinks- the spirits were the 'weakest' we have ever tasted!! Dont sighn for 'extra gratuities' on the payment slips unless you want to they have already added 15%.
Meals- the food in the AZURA restaurant was poor. The Tsars Palace better. The giant 'Trough' on deck 13 'Garden Cafe' had bigger portions if you are hungry. In our experience (Full ship) you could never get a reservation in a speciality restaurant after 7pm on the 'same' night
Excursions.- The Capri, Sorrento, Pompei, with lunch was good value. Rome and Florence 'on your own' were best vale- unless you wanted to have your pants bored off by a guide or totally stupid[/i]

done same cruise 18-25 june could not agree more...they should close theatre when show has started as we always sat near back and people were in and out contantly squeezing onto rows which caused others to stand up and block our view....do not tip AGREE......book speciality restaurants well in advance as they do get full....staff not too friendly as not working for tips!!!!!

CON THANKS FOR THOSE HEADS UP. WE ARE GOING JULY 9-16. ACTUALLY WE PREFER SITTING IN THE BALCONY ANYWAY.. WE DECIDED TO DO THE HERCULANEUM TOUR AFTER WATCHING A SPECIAL ON THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL.
WE HAVE A COUPON FOR CAGNEYS ON THE FIRST NITE TO BUY ONE , GET ONE FREE DINNER.
WE HAVE ALSO HEARD FROM MANY OTHER ON VARIOUS BOARDS THAT THE LOBSTER DINNERS WERE TERRIBLE. AT LEAST I DON'T HAVE TO SIT AND WATCH MY WIFE PICK ON THOSE THINGS.

Did the same cruise 18-25 June. On the whole the entertainment in the evening was the worse I have ever seen. Simply dreadful. The doors should be closed once the show starts, both to stop further latecomers entering and to stop disappointed viewers walking out otherwise the theatre would be empty! Definite need for improvement here.
Service charge and tipping should be abolished. Ridiculous charge. The price of drinks was the highest I have ever had to pay on a cruise line with brandy working out cheaper than a standard white wine. Obviously down to profit of course.
The food was good, nothing to complain about.
The cabin was fabulous, in fact the best we have ever had. Two single bed pushed together giving us a 6ft wide bed. The bathroom is excellent. All in all an OK cruise except for the entertainment, but have already booked next year's cruise and it's not with NCL.

15% already added to the drinks, I think this is something most everyone already knows or certainly can read as it is standard on all ships and all resorts from Florida to Vegas and all inbetween. Not tipping the 10 per day, how totally cheap can you get? Think about how many people depend on the tips: Oh, I know, they can raise the prices and pay better: sure they can, but what is the difference? HAL has the exact same policy, others suggest more than $10 per day; many, by the time they have finished with the suggest amounts it comes to 11.00 to 12.00 per day. Look at it this way: housekeeping in your hotel room: $2.00 per person per day without nightly turndown service: Breakfast at Denny's: $15.00 for 2; tip at least $2.00 (that would be the conservative end) lunch at a decent TGIF type of place; $15.00, again $2.00 tip. Dinner at Outback, with appitizers and dessert (no drinks except coffee) $50.00, tip 7.50. Total for the day, $15.00 and that doesn't cover everyone plus it's about as low as you can get. Now tell me $10 per day is a wipoff!!! Sorry, $10 is minimum. As for tipping on your own; that is impossible with free style cruising;

As for those of you who wish the doors to the show would close at showtime: I agree but how many have been on other lines or even Vegas, this isn't the way it works. Over 20 cruises, have yet to see a show where people couldn't come and go as they please. Oh, in Vegas the doors are closed, but you can sitll wander in and out. NMNita
