Default ?????'s for nmnita

Hey Nita,
Remember me? I got my girlfriend to commit to a cruise this November on the Dream. Do we need passports yet? Have you been on the dream?
Have a great day,
Duane

Duane,

No, I haven't been on her, but I have clients getting ready to cruise her the second time. I have other clients that loved the smaller size and the service. The cabins may not be as large as some cruise lines or even as large as some of NCLs newer ships. They will be much larger than cabins on the old Sea which was sent away last year.

I am sure you will have a great time, as the people who cruise the Dream are usually pretty laid back and are sailing to have a good time, not expecting a 4 star cruising experience.

Of course you will hear complaints, you will on almost any cruise line, but I have found the best and most fun way to handle this: just ask them what is so bad, what did they expect and give them an example of what is great about the ship; This will either drive them away or may cause them to think in a more positive way.

Hi Duane,

Congrats on booking your cruise with your GF!

No, in November you won't NEED passports, just your original birth certificate and a photo ID (driver's license).

But, I'd suggest you go ahead and get your passports. You'll need them next year and you can beat the rush by getting them now while you have plenty of time .

Have a wonderful cruise!

No passports needed til Jan 2007. If I were you I would get them though. It is an expense to start with, but they are good for 10 years and so much easier than the old birth certificate and photo ID. NMnita

Fern - good to see you posting. Are you going on NCL again? I'm booked on the Dream this year out of Houston - I went ont he Sun last year a few weeks before you. Anyway - I'm glad about the passports as mine are being processed and I hope to get them back in time but if not..... At least i have options. I don't see NCL doing an 11 night for the holiday this year so what are you sailing? Debbie

Hi Debbie,

We've gone back to Princess. We liked our NCL cruise, but not as much as our Princess cruise. We're going over Thanksgiving-no cooking turkey for me !

It's great that you're getting your passports! It's really going to be a "mad rush" in the fall when it finally "dawns" (pun intended!) on some people that they will need them!

We will consider NCL again if they have an itinerary and a price we like!

Hope you are doing well,

'wow Fern, you have 2 Princess cruises awaiting you: I have clients that cruise at least 4 times a year: always once or more on Princess. As you know we almost booked them for the Canal, but getting to Alcapulco was a pain you know where so we have chosen HAL.

Even though we are avid NCL supporter I am looking forward to HAL. The worst, I know I will miss freestyle and the casual dress. I am alread dreading the extra clothes for a 10 day cruise. NMnita

This is the MAIN reason we book Princess or NCL. We love Anytime-Freestyle Dining.

I just "happened" across the 14 day BTB cruise on Princess for next year. It was a very good price and goes to different ports each week. Our TA had to book it as two separate cruises, but we got the 14 day cruise price (which was lower than the two cruises BTB).

I found it odd that a cruise offered on the Princess site wasn't accessible to our TA. She had to call them and "jump through hoops" to get the cruise with the lower price . But she did it! IMO, she deserves all the commission she gets, and more !

I hope you always feel that way about her, cause agents don't get rich as I am sure you know. I think we do it or I do anyway because it is a HAPPY job. Now, as for Princess, we wanted to do a Princess Panama cruise but getting to Alcapulco is a pain in the #ss. After spending so much time on the HAL boards on the "other" website I think I am starting to regret booking them. I wish we had done Princess. HAL passengers seem a little to snobby for us and have no flexibility in what they want and expect. Oh well, we will be with good friends, I have to try other lines to keep up with what is going on and the Canal will be a once in a lifetime adventure. Next time, after a couple NCLs in there we will do Princess. AS for being the expert, I just think I am, but thanks anyway. Actually I am now certified as a NCL specialist (or about to be) as well as HAL and Princess. NMNita

Dear NMNita:

Please don't think all HAL cruisers are a little "snobby"; DH and I have done two HAL cruises and we don't consider ourselves to be that way. I do understand however that some of the HAL cruisers who post frequently can be a little rigid at times - there have been times that I've been dying to post a comment or two on some of the threads but have held back because of fear of being flamed. We have been devotees of NCL for 20+ years but the two HAL cruises were just too good to pass up on - the perfect itinerary, great suite and good price! We are now returning to NCL (Pearl 4/13/07) because like so many others, the ambiance is totally different on NCL ships - more night life, more restaurant choices and the AB suites cannot be beat!

We're glad to come "home" to NCL - will we book another HAL cruise? Sure, if the itinerary/price and timing are just right. If NCL offers the same itinerary/price and timing would we book that over HAL - you 'betcha!

Thanks I think I needed that: I am not concerned about liking the ship itself, we are convinced we will. I do admit, I hardly ever book HAL and that was the case when I was a TA in Texas. It seems my clients are either NCL/Princess types, love Celebrity or are really upscale and lean toward SeaDream, Seabourne etc.

Because we are pretty laid back, like to play trivia, are not snobs in any way and this certainly goes for our friends even more so I was getting worried, but we also know the cruise or anything in life is what you make it. If they get too uptight and prissy I will just spill a glass of red wine on them. NMnita

I know my TA doesn't get rich off our bookings ! She loves what she does! I feel kind of guilty when I see a price reduction and email her to get the lower price, but it doesn't stop me! I've also recommended her to several people who've booked with her, so I figure it evens out !

I'm also amazed by the people who think TA's get wonderful free cruises in the best cabins all the time! I know Debbie has been on some "comped" cruises, but she's been in the lowest category cabin and had to share with another TA she didn't know. (Of course that's better than not cruising, AND it's free, but it's not exactly the "high life"!)

We'll also try NCL again for the right itinerary and price.

I'll be looking forward to hearing about your HAL cruise,

Now, Nita, we both know you're too sensible to waste a perfectly good glass of red wine on snobs - use something that's free!

Free and cruise ships don't go together anymore!! I guess I could spill hot coffee but then I would have to either sue or get suid. For some reason that doesn't look like the right spelling, but you know what I mean; maybe I could drop an ice cream cone, you know one with chocolate, whipped cream, sprinkles and everything else on their lap. Boy this sounds like fun.

Fern - what BTB on Princess is it????? Sounds great but i know you like local cruises so was wondering which it was... Please tell me!!

NMNITA - I felt the same way about the people talking on the NCL board - not you but Shore.... and others really ticked me off. Made me want to hate NCL before I even boarded the ship last December. I'm sure you will love HAL - I haven't been on them but have been wanting to try them.

I know what you mean, Debbie and I certainly do not hide the fact I am an NCL loyalist, but I don't think we come across as being so much better than others. I almost wonder if we will be out of class; we are laid back, love a good time, of course like good food and entertainmnet but don't want to be at a table or socialize with people that are as old as we are for heavens sake or who think that money can buy everything including class. Actually I am really looking forward to this cruise, our friends we are traveling with have been friends for over 40 years and if nothing else, if we get stuck at a table with snobs we will just laugh about it behind their backs.

Nope and probably never will. Oh, I shouldn't say that, but I do know if I could go on one luxury cruise it would be SeaDream. I am hoping to do that in another few years.

Default DREAM

Duane, We were on the Dream last November and had a really great time. I was really nervous after we booked because I started reading all these terrible things about her. Most of the anger was about her changing the itinerary due to enegine trouble. But I made up my mind to cruise with an open mind and to take all thes horrible remarks with a grain of salt. I am so glad I did! The ship was beautiful, clean and the staff was very friendly. We are booked on the Star this Oct. My coworkers that sailed with us on the Dream loved it so much, that when they booked their cruise to Alaska this past July, they went on the Wind, the sister ship to the Dream. They even booked the same cabin they had on the Dream.
You'll have a great time.

Default Opinion on cell phones?

1. I did my first NCL cruise on the Dawn last November and booked on the
Spirit for this year before I even got off?
Best cruise ever - really loved it.

But

2. What do you think the availability of cell phone use is going to do to
the cruise ambience? I vacation to get away from phones.
Will I have to switch to Princess to avoid phone users?

3. Seadream is my dream, too. Keep buying those lottery tickets!

Sue

Nita - I was on the Legend of the Seas by RCL back in 1996 doing full transit Panama Canal and got the $400 Dom Periogn(spelling) and massage package - thought it was our last cruise and we were going to do it right! Well I was real nervous with the massage and starting talking to the lady massuse (spelling?) and they are all affiliated with Steiners and not the cruise lines and she just came from Holland America and so wanted to go back. She said the people on RCL were so much more snobby (they really were that cruise too!) and that the people may be older on Holland but they were down to earth and laid back and a lot better to be around.... That conversation has always stayed with me. I have always wanted to try Holland America line. Have fun!! Debbie
