We want to go to Hawaii, but my wife hates flying, 'specially over water. She is afraid that if we fly there she will be so miserable it will take her most of our time there just to get over the flight. So we are thinking of taking one of NCL's repositioning cruises in Sept from the west coast to the Islands, see what we want to see, then fly back. That way she can get over the flight at home. Has anyone done that (boat over, fly back)? And if so, did you make all of your own arraingments, or go thru a travel agent? Any problems, hints, etc?
NO DISRESPECT MEANT HERE- BUT I HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS PARALYZED BY FEAR EVERY TIME HE FLEW. ONE ONE TRIP TO FLORIDA FROM NYC THERE WAS A NURSE ON BOARD - SHE GAVE HIM XANEX.
DO YOU KNOW THAT HE SLEPT THE ENTIRE TRIP? IT WAS HIS BEST EXPERIENCE.
HE WON'T FLY WITHOUT IT. NO MORE GRIPPING THE SEATS AND WHITE - KNUCKLING IT ANYMORE FOR HIM!!!!
YOU MAY WISH TO TRY IT, OF COURSE, GO TO A DOCTOR FIRST AND DO IT THE LEGIT WAY -BUT IT DOES HELP.
I WOKE UP DROOLING ONCE - NOT TOO ATTRACTIVE I MIGHT ADD, BUT THEN THE FLIGHT WENT BY LICKETY SPLIT!
I'm also not "fond" of flying. I'm much more comfortable flying in before a cruise and getting it over with! If I've got a flight "looming" after the cruise I might be miserable the whole time just worrying about it! Ask your DW what she'd prefer (I know, driving !)
While I don't totally agree with JCAS5599, your DW should check with her doctor and see if she can get a RX for a small dose of Valium. It won't knock her out and it should make flying easier .
As for the arrangements, I'd go through a Travel Agent (a Cruise Specialist if possible) for the cruise and book your own flights (generally less expensive).
I hope you find the right solution for you and DW and have a wonderful cruise!
"A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour."
She has tried the prescription route, the visit the bar first route, and nothing really works, she is still a nervous wreck. Plus, we enjoyed our one cruise on NCL last year (Inland Passage) so much that we would kind of like to boat again. We have just about decided (even tho we are looking at Sep '08) to do their repositioning cruise. Our main interest in the islands is Oahu, but hitting Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii before Oahu might be fun too. A friend who shared a cabin with us last time is interested in this deal too, so we might make it a threesome once again. Thanks for your replies...
