rinker,

How bout explaining a little more. As for why you paid more via a TA, no one can answer that, but normally TAs offer the same rates as the cruise line or a little less. Many things could have entered into it. I can't remember which ship you sailed, but if it was a newer one, often the prices drop after the ships are a few years old. I remember the price of the Jewel the first few sailings compared to now. NMnita

Mnita, I just noticed that the price per person went DOWN on my cruise on the POH. It went DOWN $200 pp two days after we made our final payment! Think my TA can get anything for me? Its kinda slippery for NCL to drop prices right after final payments are in..... Jimbo

That can happen on occassion, and not just NCL does it. At final payment date, if there's a significant % of cabins that are cancelled the cruise lines yield management programs kick in and can and do reduce prices.

Occassionally you can get a discount, or onboard credit to compensate.

But.. on RCI for example, I have seen them list the discounted cabins with denoting them "for new bookings only".

We sailed the Pearl for 5 days. Paid 2350.00 (total for two) for a balcony on the 10th deck-10574. Included were fees of 183.00

A couple examples of what I'm seeing in the brochures I just recieved:
(all balconies)
5-day Pacific coast 649.00 Pearl
13-day Panama 1,599.00 Crown
8-day Mex Riviera 1,049.00 Star
11-day W. Carrib. 1,349.00 Dawn
7-day " " (fr NO) 829.00 Spirit
7-day Alaska 1,249.00 Sun/Star
I won't even mention the transatlantic prices for the Gem.

I could go on but I'll probably max out my CC cards!!
Granted, these are early booking prices and do not include taxes/fees.

The gist of my post was meant to mention the unexpected low prices and not to denegrate my TA.
Since returning home we have been contacted by our "personal" NCL agent and were advised that we will enjoy lower than published pricing due to prior cruising with them.

COME ON RETIREMENT!!!!

oh, is retirement near or are you just dreaming? I remember the days. As for lower becasuse you are a repeat cruiser, yes, this is true, but the lower rates are offered only on certain sailings, like any special. I think the difference in what you paid on the Pearl and the new prices is what I was referring to when I mentioned the new ship versus a ship a few years or in this case, maybe a year old.

Thanks for filling us in on the details and happy cruisin

NMNita

Looking to hang it up in 8 years (55).

Another thing I forgot to mention.....
After 4 days of snow and sub freezing temps, we walked into our TA and said "book us on the NEXT cruise".

Mighta been a factor, huh?

Try to get your hands on the supplemental pricing brochure for the Gem.
We are definitely looking to go trans Atlantic.

Tranatlantic is a great cruise if you like to just relax. Are you 55 now or planning on hanging it up at 55? Our daughter is looking to say good bye to the working world at 55 which for her is 8 more years.

I can understand why you paid so much for your cruise... NMnita
