Default Alcohol in bag/purse

I am considering trying to smuggle a small bottle of booze in a hidden zipper of a large purse. What is the method of checking bags/purses when getting on the ship(this would be one of the Hawain 7 day cruises). Do your carry ons go through xray or just check bags?

Ok, looks like I will try to get a bar set up. Are these allowed on all 3 ships...Alha. POH & POA?

As far as I am aware, bar set-ups are not available on NCLA ships. Just put your booze in an empty iced tea or water bottle. Or, buy your drinks on the ship.

Tim, I think you are right; no bar set up, no casino, only beautiful islands to visit> I think I will skip Hawaii.

On our November cruise on the Sun they x-rayed everything and confiscated a boat load of stuff. I know the quantity because we were standing outside the "come and claim your stuff room" while we were disembarking and it was overflowing. If you get busted, they will confiscate your liquor which leaves you the choice of standing in line on disembarkation morning to claim it or abandoning it. Not worth the hassel IMHO.

The "come and claim your stuff room" might be also used to distribute any duty free liquor purchases made throughout the cruise. Even if you purchase it off the ship, it will be confiscated and stored for you to be returned prior to disembarkation. Other lines we have sailed on deliver it to your cabin the last night of the cruise. The propriety of smuggling booze onto a ship can be and has been endlessly debated with no consensus. But, I'll tell you for certain it can be done and is done on a very regular basis.

the room is used for the duty free purchases as well. On the Sun last year, everything we purchased in St Thomas was kept for us til the morning of departure, but when we claimed ours you could tell 75% was convescated; boxes of wine, bottle sitting by themselves, etc. NMNita

Nothing like experience! ;-)

I had a cabin mate, who was running over budget. While at one of our ports of calls she bought duty free, went to the ladies room and poured it into her NCL jacketed water bottle. Went through security without a problem.

Also for those who like wine... I know of at least a dozen boxes of wine that have made it onto half dozen different ships. Security is looking for bottles in your check through not boxes.

Good luck

We just got off of Pride of Ahola and had vodka and white rum in water bottles in our suitcases.. They went through smoothly. We bought one coke card and all our drinks we made. You can get ginger ale or tonic water with the card also. The ice was available in our stateroom all the time.

the funny thing about the NCLA cruises is that since everything has to be shipped in to the islands booze is not the only commodity. as funny as this sounds bottled water was served like wine.
We were at the Lazy J Steakhouse and the asst.waiter came by with perrier and another brand of water and he asked and showcased like it was a bottle of wine...."would you like bottled water with your dinner" and excuse the pun but I acted like a cowboy and was like sure no problem we will take the poland spring (i hate perrier) well it took us three days to realize that we were paying $4 for bottled water when we could have just asked for tap water. The islands and cruise ships have limited water so they do not bring tap water unless it is asked for.Wne would have been cheaper by the glass.

Hey,

I am a 21 y/o college student who loves to cruise and have become quite adept at smuggling booze on the ship. If you would like I have some hilarious pictures of hows its done, but just to give you an idea me and my friends were able to get 36 bottles of Corona, 3 bottles of Vodka, a bottle of Captain and 2 cartons of cigarettes on board with no problem. You just have to be smooth. Like for instance just put the bag over ur shoulder and put a shirt over it, make it look like ur just carrying the shirt. From our experiences the bottles do not go off in the metal detector. On other occasions we have purchased dashiki type rediculous looking get ups and just strap the booze to ourselves. Also when the bag is going through the X ray machine distract the technician while ur bag is going through and he wont see it...lol. Another method that works is you have a team. Two people works fine and while one person checks the alcohol with the attendant the other person smoothly walks by or jumps into an elevator. I went to the desk to check one bottle while my friends cruised to the room with 10 bottles. Sacrifice one for ten. Believe me it can be done. The pics I have are priceless. Hope this helps.

Ed

My husband smuggled at least 30 airplane size bottles in his luggage. He checked them in at the airport and they went to the ship.

They hand searched my carry on bag, when I was reboarding the Pride of Aloha in Maui. The x-ray machine showed the outline of cans, which of course was diet coke.

They thought the cans might contain beer, thus the hand search. My soda and I continued on.

Here's a tip:
go to www.rumrunnerflasks.com They are plastic flasks that you can fill up (comes with a funnel). Not bottle shaped so they won't show up as a bottle. THey have assorted sizes, are re-usable etc. We just bought a set on the recommendation of a friend who has use them.

If you don't want to carry a bunch of heavy bottles through airports and onto the ship, then do this. Put a couple big bottles of your favorite beverage in a suitcase, as well as a little bottle of some cheap awful alcohol. If you bag gets x-rayed, they might pull it and they will pull it aside. When you go to the"naughty room" to claim your bag, they will ask if you have alcohol, you can honestly say "yes I do" and pull out the little bottle of booze, leaving the big bottles. they do not search your bags, they just ask you to remove the alcohol yourself.

Cheers
