PROS/CONS OF AN AFT PENTHOUSE SUITE ON NORWEGIAN SUN
Just returned last week from an Exotic Western Caribbean cruise on the Sun in two of the aft Penthouse Suites (#9076 and #9276). We had a GREAT cruise and were incredibly comfy in our suite!! Here are the pros and cons of this category:
--Lovely, long balcony with 2 chairs, 2 lounge chair and table. Great view to the port, rear and starboard sides!!
--Great stereo system in living area--bring CD's and you can "play your own music" in stereo on the DVD player. The DVD player came with a book of DVD's available for your use.
--Long, roomy bathroom with jacuzzi tub, separate shower and PLENTY of cupboard space. There is even a bathroom scale under the sink which we successfully ignored the entire week
--His & Hers Closets/Drawers--plenty of space to hang up and/or put away everything, with mulitiple drawers and shelves to spare. Bedroom closet has interior light that comes on automatically when the door is opened.
--Fresh fruit daily and hors d'oeuvres served in the evening every day
--Ability to order dinner to be served in your suite from ANY RESTAURANT on the ship (a fabulous perk since my husband had a sprained ankle). Just ask your butler for the appropriate menus (surcharges apply for the specialty restaurants). THIS WAS A HUGE PERK after an exhausting day ashore!! Our butler brought in a larger, higher table each time we ate, so we didn't have to eat on the small, low table by the sofa.
--Hot items like eggs, omelettes and hot cereal are available for room service breakfast (other folks have cold items only). Apparently in past years, there were also waffles and Eggs Benedict offered, but not anymore.
--GREAT VIP embarkation--the easiest and quickest we've ever had--we felt totally pampered!!
--Living area desk had 3 separate electrical outlets and the dressing table outside the bathroom had one, too. Plenty of outlets for plugging in battery rechargers, curling irons, etc.!!
--VIP Tender Tickets for getting off the ship VERY quickly at ports where the ship does not dock right next to a pier. We were off the ship on the first "tender" (shuttle) when we wanted to be--no problem.
--VIP Disembarkation--what a breeze! Our bags were tagged with red and white VIP baggage tags, we met our concierge in the ship library that moring at 9 a.m., she escorted us off the ship, took us to where our bags were (separate from the other bags), escorted us through Customs and saw us right onto our shuttle for the airport.
--Because we had an AFT penthouse suite and were at the back of the ship, we had continual ash from the ship's smoke stacks floating down onto and settling on our balcony. It made the deck and all the balcony furniture dirty (tiny, black specks which got tracked into the suite) and required us to "brush off" first anything we wanted to sit on. We would not have another aft suite for that reason because we LOVE to sit on our balcony.
--We had no cover over our balcony so we had very little shade and no privacy at the rail of our balcony. Those in aft suites on decks above us could see us and we could see them, plus we could see the people below us. I guess it was "friendly."
So, hope this helps anyone who's thinking of booking an AFT Penthouse Suite on the Sun.

Thanks for the great post. My daughter is taking me on a cruise on the Sun in June to Alaska and we have an aft Penthouse Suite. I am really looking forward to the pampering. Sounds like you had a great time.
