Default What is included on a NCL cruise?

We have cruised 11 times with Carnival and are considering trying another cruise line in the future. What is and is not included in a NCL cruise?

Thanks,

AKcruiser

i found it to be basically the same as other cruises.

The drinks, gambeling, spas excurssions. etc not included, They have some places to eat which you pay extra for, we never do that, we have no need for this, there are plenty of places to eat, and if I want a good steak, I will eat one here at home. Not to mention I had steak in the regular dinnibg , and it was fine. You can buy soda cards, we have not done this as they dont seem to mind bring aboard cans and bottled water. We buy a few at each port.

They put the tips--or service charge or what ever you want to call it automatically on your account, but you can adjust this yourself .

Photos cost a little more than on carnival, but way less than century, and for past guests, they have good deals.

So all in all, basically the same as other lines.

We have sailed on both lines and its the same. NCL has more specialty resturants than Carnival because they offer the free-style cruising but all the lines include food around the clock, basic gym, fun and games, shows, port talks, etc. What was you thinking about?

The cost of "extras" on NCL is no different from Carnival, or any lines, with the exception of some of the alternate restaurants.

The advantage of NCL is "Freestyle" dining. As on the Jewel, the ship I'm on now, has 10 different restaurants onboard. Many of them have no extra surcharge, others do... but the variety of choices is excellent.

Personally I think someone booking NCL should (in their mind) add $100 or so per person to the cost of the cruise ticket, so they can make use of all of the ship's alternate restaurants. If after adding that in, it's still a good deal, then book it. I think limiting your choices by not using the alternate restaurants at all doesn't allow you to enjoy all of the strengths of NCL's Freestyle Cruising.

Kuki,
Thanks for reminding us that you were cruising while we are at work! Although cruising is your work...boy how do I get a job like that? Now I am even more depressed....oh well I guess I better go book the next sailing.

Stay well away from NCL! we went on a cruise from hell on their Pride of Hawaiiin March to April. Sick after 3 days, most likely due to faulty ventilation system. The Medicos on the boat suck, I wouldn't take my dog to them. The crew was 60% incompetent and NCl doesnot respond to their Customer relations number. I have notified the FDA ( Which oddly enough is the regulatory agency for US waters ships).
NCL has take crusing to a new low. sort of like a floating trailer park.

NCL and NCLA are great dont let a few disgruntled passengers ruin it for you, every company has some mistakes and they will take care of u when they do

and FDA probably won't respond. You have no reason for your complaints from what you have posted on other threads, not to mention you do not know the difference between NCL and NCLA> I guess you are not a veteran cruiser. NMnita

What is and isn't included is pretty much the same on all lines: Bingo, photos, casino, tasting classes, specialty dining, tips, spa, etc. The big difference between NCL and the other lines in the number of specialty dining places. Some with extra charges. It is up to you how much you choose to spend on board. YOu will still have, at least 4 or 5 dining choises with no cost, movies, nightly entertainment, trivia games, games, cards, and what you find on other lines. The only way you will know what is best for you is to try. Whatever you choose, enjoy your next cruise. NMnita

As mentioned, take all comments in not just a few that didnt like a cruise....what makes a good cruise apart from the ships facilities is how you interact with the crew/staff.............this is on ALL shipping lines......... I have cruised well over 50 cruises and to be frank I dont think there is a cruiseline that comes near NCL for value and trying to please........ you cant get a 4 star plus hotel room for what they charge, meals are great, and so on, FREE self serve Expresso & Cappacinno machine on some and 20 hours per day Soft Serve with 3 flavours to boot, great cabin staff ( not USA staff I am talking about) and no matter if you want FreeStlye (or as with Princess Personal Choice) or specialty cover charge its your choice

The big difference to me is Freestyle Dining! I loved it. We went with another couple and it was great that we could go to dinner anytime. The other couple did not want to pay extra for the other fee dining, so we only ate at the free regular dining. We only wait one night for about 15 minutes. The other nights we wakjed right in. I thought we might have bad service since you would not have the same dining staff. We had one night that was just so-so. All the other nights were excellent. I like that I could take my time and eat when I was hungry.

Thank you so much for your input everyone. My hubby is reluctant to try another cruise line because he is afraid they will be more "dressy and stuffy" than Carnival. Has anyone noticed this to be true? Too bad you can't transfer your Carnival platinum status to other lines!!!

Thanks again,

Akcruiser

If you book a suite the concierge will make your reservations for you. You just call them and tell them where you want to eat and when.

NCL will be less "dressy and stuffy" than Carnival for dinner. NCL only has optional formal nights. You're welcome in the dining room in resort casual dress every night!

Absolutely NCL is not stuffy or dressy. In fact, it is the most relaxed dress code of all lines. As for stuffy, not at all, the crew is friendly, relaxed and helpful, the passengers the same and overall atmosphere is similar. The cabins on NCL are smaller, there are not as many pool activities and I don't think the night life is quite as lively, but certainly lively enough. Give them a try, you can always go back and no cruise is a bad cruise unless you let it be bad or something really unusual happens.

I think that you will be in for a big surprise when you cruise on NCL as opposed to Carnival. You will be on the ship wanting to book your next cruise on Carnival. We gave the NCL Pearl a chance last month and decided that we would not sail on them again. From here on out, it will be Carnival or RCCL. We found NCL to be lacking of enjoyable activities and more of a "blah"(for lack of a better term) cruise. As for the dressy and stuffy part that was mentioned, we didn't see that at all. But I do agree that you should give NCL a try, I am just betting that you will be back on Carnival for your next cruise.

Enjoy your cruise!!!

People are different, if you really want activities, maybe Carnival is better than NCL. For me cruising is more about doing nothing and then I think NCL is better.

On our cruise with NCLs Dawn, our cabinneigbours said that since we were so much younger than them, we should probably enjoy Carnival but I doubt it.

When we saw the Dawn and one of Carnivals ships at the samt time outside Grand Cayman, we were very happy that we were cruising with NCL, Carnivals ship look like an old wreck compared to the Dawn!

Some people lika Carnival and some people like NCL! Is good that not all people are the same!
