Default Need Help Please...Any answers appreciated!

Hello all....I am taking a 14 night complete Caribbean on NCL Pearl in October. I keep coming up with some questions as I prepare.

1. Do I need to take my passport off the ship while in port? Can I just bring my ship card and driver's license. Do I need to take a copy of my passport? I really don't want to take ANY chance of losing it while out and about.

2. Money? I usually take travelers checks. Should I cash some on board and have US Dollars to spend (I know US is accepted virtually anywhere) or use my credit card? I get a little nervous, as I don't want to get overcharged, not given the right change etc. I do not have a debit/ATM card.

Thanks for any insight!

You do not need to take your passport off of the ship in the Caribbean. Leave it in the safe. Ship card and picture ID is adequate.

As for traveler's checks... they are not as readily accepted as they used to be, though you can cash them easily at the guest relations desk on the ship.
In ports of call I recoommend using US dollars for small purchases, and credit cards for large ones.

Default Peace, Dear traveler

Passports are nice to enter and leave countries, but are not required to do shore ventures. My PEARL experience says 1) you MUST have your on-board account card so NCL can recognize you (you can't get OFF without it!), and 2) you need a photo ID, (passports work really well, but not required). You must have your NCL card to reboard, and you must have a photo ID to get through security on your way to boarding.

Money works any way you want it to.
1) local cash or $$ is always welcome.
2) credit cards are accepted if they want to sell soemthing.
3) don't forget local banks - the lines are slow, but the exchange is the best if you need local cash from US or credit card cash advance.
4) I don't do traveler's checks.
Namaste, and take a look at that TV screen in the main lobby!

I guess your questions have pretty much been answered. Travelers checks as mentioned can be cashed at reception or you can use CCards in port. Everything you purchase on board will go on your cabin account so there will be no problems and you can use travelers checks in the casinos.

No, you do not have to take your passport on shore.
