we'll be doing a Samana stopover on the Pearl in Oct. and know little or nothing about that side of the D.R.--Any help for planning a day would be greatly appreciated
It is very rare I suggest only using the ships excursions, but this is one time I would either stay on board, walk to the little flea market and then head back or use NCL as your tour guide. The island, like much of DR is very poor, we did not find the people friendly at all and really were totally unimpressed as were most we talked to on the ship. I am sure some people will say the island is wonderful, it probably is under the right circumstances, we just didn't feel comfortable.
thanks Nita, we kind of felt that way last year while in Santo Domingo, very unimpressed and the poverty level was extreme. we were kind of hoping Samana would be a nicer side, Will probably just book an NCL excursion
Thanx Kuki--tried to get on last year while we were in Casa de Campo but no tee times--heard it's a great track!!I see your posts a lot and enjoy them. Apparently you're not familiar with Samana?--Just need to know how to spend the day---hate to just book an NCL island "beachday" or stay on the ship--doesn't seem to be much else
I was in Samaana last March. They were building a Casino and Shops right acroos the street from where the tender drops you. I am not sure if its finished yet. We did a local sites tour, but there really wasnt anything worth seeing as the area is pretty well undeveloped. I thought the people I met were friendly, but it is a very poor area.
