Default Pride of America port or starboard?does it really matter

Hello all,
I've booked a cruise for my mom and her friends on NCL, Pride of America, Hawaii cruise scheduled to depart 1/19/08. They are booked in cabin 10112 (starboard). One of Mom's travelling companion (who's called me at least a dozen times since the booking a week ago) wants to know which side is the better side. Port or starboard? I said I didn't think it mattered much but she is insisting that I check. I checked with NCL and the reservation agent said it depends on which way the ship is coming in.
So I am coming to you guys (my favorite resource) for help, insight and your experience. I think she just wants to be at the balcony and be able to look over at the island (s) not just open seas.
Thanks guys,

I don't know if it really matters, but we were on the starboard side 2 years ago, and when they sailed past the volcano at night we got a good long look at it. That could be different by now, though.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your input. I figure one way or another they will see islands. Although I have not been on this cruise I don't really picture a vast ocean but lots of tiny and larger islands. That they would see land most of the time..
or am I wrong?

Thanks again for your reply, Paul.
