Default Questions on GEM/NCL

A few questions for the NCL pros! 8)

Has anyone been on the Gem yet?
I hear there is 4 lane bowling are there big lines to bowl?
Open seating - is there a wait for say 6pm requesting a small table?
I hear there are about 12 restaurants on board other then the basic Dining room are they all at an additional fee?
How is the service?
Is there a basketball court on board?
With freestyle dining does this mean no formal nites everyone is in jeans and tshirt? I do love formal nites.

Thanks all! 8) 8) 8)

will be on GEM shortly, friends on Pearl said there were lines for bowling he first two days.....guess every one wanted to try it. Yes there is basket ball, I saw lovely photos of her and I really liked the court on this one from what I could see on a pic. No not all places to eat are for a fee, for example salsa and mambos and blue lagoon. Service I will know when I get there, freestyle means you decide , there are optional formal nights, we always used them, we also noticed people dressing up formal when they wanted to as well, not just on formal nights and other who never did. Thats why we like it so much. Formal nights, no jeans in the dining room. Personally I have not seen waits for those earlier times to dine and when they have been waits, from my expierience, they are not long, I am "lucky" we have medical issues and need to eat at the same time daily, so they are exceptinally helpful; making reservations for us three days at a time at the same time.

Where to start.

I have been on the Pearl and just returned from the Gem. No lines for bowling. $5 a game includes shoes. Most of the time I went to Bliss there were open lanes.

Free dining

2 main restaurants same menu, Gaden cafe buffet with action stations Blue Lagooon fast food - fish and chips, chilli, burgers, wonton soup, Bai High burgers chicken etc. cooked to order daytime.

Free but need reservations:
Tequela sowthwest food, La Cucina Italian

$10-20 cover charge
Bistro french, Cagneys Steak house, Orchid Garden Asian

Dress 95% of the passengers are in resort casual most nights. Slacks collared shirt. There is a formal optional night with many still dressing up. Not a lot of Tuxes but suits, sports coats, nice dresses. No jeans allowed in one dining room. I saw no one at dinner any night in a t-shirt except in the Garden Cafe.

6 pm should be easy for a small table - 7:30 or just after the first show gets out you might have a 15 minute wait.

I had no issues with the service.

Yes there is a basketball court

Thanks Delfthuis and Shoreguy!

Shoreguy you answered all my questions! I see you are doing the gem again soon.

It might be time to try another cruise line other then Royal. Plus a great rate on Gem and no airfare involved. 8)

Thanks again!
