We are going to be on the GEM for Christmas this year. I read that there will be a Catholic priest onboard to say Mass. Has anyone every cruised NCL for Christmas and is this generally true? This will be the 1st year we've cruised over Christmas.
Last year we did a Thanksgiving cruise. Thanksgiving was no biggie except the turkey wasn't like home, but it sure was nice floating around Antigua thinking of all the rest of the family arguing over who was clearing the table and doing dishes. This year, we decided to spend Thanksgiving w/the family, but try skipping spending Christmas with them.
Anyone care to share their holiday cruise experiences? Is the ship really decorated for Christmas? Or is this just a bad idea?
there most likely will be a priest on board, but this isn't always the case. The ships, normally do not plan religious services as part of the cruise experience, they do have them when there is a clery person available and willing. Enjoy your Christmas on the Gem.
I should think this being the biggest religious holiday in the world (of certainly for us) every effort would be made to have services.
All I can add is The Pearl in early december last year was fully decorated. Trees in the lobby, lights, center pieces on all the tables. I did a xmas cruise in 99 and it will be my last. The ship was packed and I found I missed being with extened family for the holiday.

did new years even cruise on DAWN. Decorations were still up ( but taken down the last day of cruise) . Very pretty decorations and nice atmosphere, but personally I would never cruise on Christmas as I want to be home with loved ones/family, but know many who like to escape all of it as well. Have to do what makes you happy! You will have a great time, and it will be festive I am quite sure.
