Default FYI Spirit Itinerary Change

Well here's the news we've been expecting.

IMPORTANT:
ITINERARY CHANGE INFORMATION

Dear Valued Travel Partners & Guests,
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has important information for you regarding Norwegian Spirit’s 8-Day
Eastern Caribbean sailings from New York,
from April 19 through August
23, 2008.

All guests
booked on these sailings need to be aware of this change and travel professionals are asked to forward
this information to their clients.

Because of a technical issue with one of her four engines, Norwegian Spirit will be travelling at a
reduced speed for the above mentioned sailings. Please be assured that the engine issue reducing our
speed capabilities in no way impacts the safe operation of the vessel.

Based on this reduced speed and to provide for the best possible itinerary
given the speed limitations,
we are cancelling our call to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and will be calling instead on San Juan,
Puerto Rico on Tuesday from 2pm until midnight. Also, we have adjusted our departure time from
Samaná and our arrival into New York to compensate for the reduced speed. Our revised itinerary will
be:

Arrive Depart
Sat New York, New York 4:00 PM
Sun At Sea
Mon At Sea
Tue
San Juan, Puerto Rico 2:00 PM midnight

Wed Tortola, British Virgin Islands 8:00 AM
4:00 PM

Thu Samaná, Dominican Republic
8:00 AM 3:00 PM

Fri At Sea
Sat At Sea
Sun New York, New York
10:00 AM

It's not often that we need to alter an itinerary. When we do, we know it can cause disappointment.

Guests choosing not to sail as a result of this itinerary change may cancel their cruise without
cancellation fees and receive a full refund of the cruise fare paid. Any cancellations must be made by
Friday, February 22, 2008.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of Norwegian Cruise Line.

Should you have
any questions, please call us at (800) 327-7030 Monday to Friday 8am to midnight EST or Saturday
and Sunday 9am to 9pm EDT and a Norwegian Cruise Line representative will be available to assist
you.

Sincerely,
Crane Gladding
Senior Vice President, Revenue Management & Passenger Services

Gary I feel for you. We sail March 30th and still haven't been notified of the change in Roatan. We also haven't been notified of any other changes like leaving Samana two hours early or arriving into NYC two hours later than scheduled. That is assuming they will make just those changes and not something more drastic.

I have to admit, their itinerary changes to your cruise and the 8 day really stink, they should have done a better job. The choices they made were terrible. There are a lot of unhappy campers out there.

I know we loose GSC for GBI but the 8 day replaces St Thomas with San Juan, that is a down grade.

The info is definately slow, they should just comeout and lay it all on the line.

The official word still hasn't come down yet from NCL, but it is looking good.
Now the only thing that is concerning is the fact that they say they will arrive on the last day in NYC at 10:00 a.m. from Samana. which means they plan on travelling 1910 miles in 67 hours which would mean they would need to sail at about 28-29 mph... since the ship is running at reduced speed due to the engine problem it has been averaging only about 21-22 mph, so I don't know if we will make into NYC in time to get d/h where he will need to be for work on Monday... So I am not sure what we will do with this cruise.

You left out the 3-5mph gain because of the Gulf Stream current. So the time is doable. They lose speed coming back down.

I purposely omitted the gulf stream effect because that is the very best case scenario and even with 22 mph plus 5 mph it's still only 27 mph and we have a very good chance of being quite late especially if we hit rough seas or other storm systems disrupting the gulf stream, or if the ship has to deviate from its course at all to avoid a storm. Originally the Spirit was supposed to get into NYC at 8:00 a.m. I am afraid some people could be in danger of missing their flights.

It's all speculation right now and since we will be the first set of guinea pigs on this run we'll have to wait and see.

It makes me hesitate to make any commitments regarding what we will be doing for a day or two post cruise.

BigE don't shoot the messenger, but they have made it pretty clear they are not giving any OBC or anything else, other than the option to cancel without penalty. There are some very unhappy campers. The letter I posted below was sent out a few days ago. If you booked directly with NCL they should have sent you an email, if you booked through an agent, they should have notified your agent who in turn should have notified you. Our cruise is at the end of March. I just got my email this morning. They waited until they notified everyone else and then we were the last ones to be told. Luckily, the changes to our itinerary were not as drastic as yours were. But never the less they should have notified us prior to making final payment, since this issue developed way back in December.
