say goodbye to Pride of Aloha

Just got the press release from my boss: Pride of Aloha will be sailing her last voyage in Hawaii the week prior to May 11th. She officially leaves the Islands on the 11th. This will leave just the Pride of America doing the NCLA thing.

Nita :-?

BigE11378 February 11th, 2008 10:04 PM

When hopefully the SS US will replace her!! I hate what they did to the NORWAY and the INDY, hopefully they will the SS US and not just scrap her like they did the others. They took artwork and things from Indy before taking her to India...hopefully these will be used on the SS US.

:D

Hey I got a bridge you can buy LOL I think pigs will fly before the SS US carries another passenger. It is a shame but more then likely a fact.

I has sadden with the news of the POAL leaving the fleet. There was such hope to establish a viable US passenger fleet again. Everything lined up against it. Some self inflected and some outside the control of NCL.

Shoreguy, I agree with you, SS US will not carry passengers again and I am sorry about what seems to be happening. I was so sure NCL could pull this off.

BigE11378 February 13th, 2008 04:48 PM

well hopefully the one ship will stay.

r_otway February 14th, 2008 05:54 AM

all though never mentioned in any threads. most of the changes in hawaii have come about since the recent investment between apollo management and ncl / star cruises. from what i understand, one of the stipulations was that they could reduce or all bit iliminate the ncla fleet. thus this has happened in the passed 6 months with the announcement of the jade and now the aloha. ever since the ncla fleet was set up ncl/star cruises has run at a loss. and no company is willing to do that. well any smart company that is.

BigE11378 February 14th, 2008 12:09 PM

with some new laws coming through soon, it will make the fanning islands not a true international stop so NCLA should make a big rebound.

heliskev February 24th, 2008 05:50 AM

I was told this ship is going to be renamed ncl jade and its home will now be Southampton crusiing the med and canaries during the summer and back to the caribean in the winter.

Helen, I am not sure your information is correct as the Pride of Hawaii which is now in the process of being re-furbished and will soon be sailing under the name the Jade. I doubt they would have 2 ships with the same name. I think your information came from someone who was confusing the two ships. The itinerary information is correct, the ship isn't.

BigE11378 February 24th, 2008 10:32 AM

the aloha will be going to the Star Lines from what I understand

NCL was the only line that used Fanning Island so does any change in the interpitation of the current laws help NCLA :?:

The intinerary info for the Jade is currently different. Summers in Southampton but winters in NYC. Rumor has it a change in that is possible with the Jade staying in the Europe year round.

BigE11378 February 24th, 2008 12:15 PM

the fanning island trip is true for NCl but other lines have a fanning island type stop in mexico etc and those will be changed to having to be of more of an extended stay from what i understand, which could be that i do not understand much!LOL

I hope the jade doesnt stay in europe full time...we are booked on her for this new years cruise coming up.

YOur understanding is correct from all we have heard.

Jade staying in Europe? What the devil?

Shoreguy, when is this change in itinerary going to be implemented? I am wondering if they will cancel existing cruises or if they will actually plan ahead and offer the rumoured European itinerary for the yet unannounced future itineraries.

I too would love to know, normally what Shoreguy says is pretty accurate. et us hope this time he is wrong. good luck

If anyone else had posted this information I would have dismissed it without giving it a second thought, but since it came from Shoreguy, I would imagine there is some truth to it.

It is only a rumor. If I`get confirmation I will share it but it makes sense. I believe RCL is leaving the Brillance in Europe. They all can't fight for the same low margin island cruises.

beenie weenie February 24th, 2008 11:51 PM

Thanks Shoreguy! Another post I read on this subject, claimed NCL was going to start informing those affected as early as tomorrow. That seems pretty quick, especially considering how NCL generally handles these sorts of issues.

Fanning Island

If any of you guys evr have the opportunity of visiting Fanning Island, just DO IT!
It is well worth the 2 day sailing to get there from Hawaii. It is as if you have gone back 150 years in a time machine! And the people, how friendly and charming and they speak fantastic English.
I'd go back in a heartbeat!
Here's a pic of the NCL School (yes the school is named for NCL) on Fanning Island:

You're welcome Nita.
I tell ya, visiting Fanning Island, (you are so close to the equator only 3 degress North I believe, and you have officially crossed the International Date Line so you are technically speaking one day ahead when ya get there) I would rate that one of my top experiences. Nuttin quite like it.
And the remoteness of the atoll! Nice Nice Nice Nice!

I know you are big on NCL in particular but come join us for some smiles once in a while on the Carnival and Chit Chat boards. We'd love to have ya around.

BigE11378 February 25th, 2008 03:58 PM

just found out some information on the Pride of Aloha and how she will be moved etc. The best crew members are being consolidated on the Pride of America and ALL crew members will be offered employment on some NCL/NCLA ship, no one will be released, which I think is pretty big of the company. now of course a troublemaker can be transfered or offered a job as the bilge cleaner on a tug in the artic but at least they do offer them something...LOL. I got this from a crew member video blog and he said that they receive company emails so he will have the inside scoop so I am waiting a reply from him on the other questions we have.
