Default Sign & sail card, other last minute questions

This is my first cruise, and I can't seem to stop coming up with questions!

1. I've read topics about this sign and sail card, but I don't quite understand the details. I've gathered that even if you want to pay cash, you still have to have a credit card on hold. Fine. But can you pay cash as you go? I'm mainly concerned about drinks here...BF and I would much prefer to pay cash to the bartender every time than to swipe our room card and get slapped with a huge bill at the end. How does this work?

2. Hairdryers. I've also read in various topics that they are provided in the rooms on the Star, but it says nothing about that on NCLs website. I just want to make sure before I leave mine at home.

3. Mini-fridges in the rooms. Are they there in all rooms? Can I make them take out all their costly extra stuff so I can put my own sodas in there?

4. Is room service included in the price I've paid (minus the tip to the delivery person, of course)?

5. (Last one, I promise.) If I bring the recommended extra bag with swimsuit and such for embarkation day before my room is ready, where do I ditch the bag in the hours I'm waiting?

Thank you so much, all of you. I'm so glad I stumbled across this website!

The ship uses a cashless system, the bartenders do not handle cash. On some cruiselines you can buy prepaid drink coupons, but not on NCL, also bear in mind every drink you buy automatically has a 15% gratuity added on. You can buy onboard credit in advance if you like, but I really don't see the point. You will just have to keep an eye on what you spend.

Unless something has changed recently, there is no reason you can not fund your onboard account with cash or traveller's checks. Just make sure you budget $10 per day per person for tips in addition to any other purchases you make.

2. Hairdryers. I've also read in various topics that they are provided in the rooms on the Star, but it says nothing about that on NCLs website. I just want to make sure before I leave mine at home.

There are hair dryers on board.

I don't know if your ship has mini fridges in every room, some do not. If yours does, you may request the room steward remove the contents so you can use it. Usually they just put everything on a shelf or in a cabinet in your room.

4. Is room service included in the price I've paid (minus the tip to the delivery person, of course)?

Yes

5. (Last one, I promise.) If I bring the recommended extra bag with swimsuit and such for embarkation day before my room is ready, where do I ditch the bag in the hours I'm waiting? I have never encountered a problem going to my room jus to drop a few items off whether it is actually ready or not, or you may just sit the bag on a chair with your towel and stuff while you are in the pool swimming, If you are laying out you can just slide it under the chaise.

Have fun!

Agreed with Beenie.

Star does have refrigerators in all rooms, just to confirm.

And, like Beenie, I've never been turned away from my cabin on first day. We always go there and change and wash our faces before we start to explore!

See you at the pool!

Just returned from Mexico on the Star. Great ship and great cruise. I think it depends on when you arrive as to whether or not you have immediate access to your cabin. We boarded at about noon and no one was allowed to go to their cabins until about 2:00pm. Perhaps they were just running late in turning over the rooms on this particular cruise.

Enjoy and say "hi" to Stan Sykes. He is a great entertainer...
