Default If NCL cancel a cruise.

I´m booked on the transatlantic cruise on the Jewel in September and I wonder what kind of responsibility NCL takes if they cancel the cruise or if it´s late to New York.

My TA can´t book the cruise and the flights as a packet because the flightitinerary is special. Our flights will be: Stockholm-London and New York-London-Stockholm, not a normal roundtrip.

If NCL cancel the cruise and I can´t use my planetickets, will NCL somehow compensate me?

If the ship is late to New York and I miss my flight (the flight will be in the evening so a few hours late is no problem), will NCL somehow compensate me?

Of course I will buy tripinsurence but that won´t cover if NCL cancel the cruise and the flightticket isn´t on the same booking!

Eric, you need to look at insurance from an independent source (not the cruise line) that will cover the air. I can tell you from first hand experience that NCL will not blink an eye about leaving you holding the bag on your very costly airfare when they cancel your cruise. They just did this to me on our Transatlantic Jade cruise. They decided to keep the Jade in Europe and the compensation they offered was anemic to put it lightly ($100 shipboard credit if you rebooked the cruise they offered you). It was terrible. Fortunately I found another cruise on another cruiseline at about the same time with similar ports we could use. But do not think that they will care about the money their decisions cost you.

beenie weenie, I have read your post about your cancelled cruise.

I will not buy insurance from NCL but it´s still so that since the trip will be on two seperate bookings, it won´t cover everything. At least that´s what my TA has told me. I have bought an insurance that allow me to cancel my planeticket for any reason (the insurence costed 100$ and the cost for me to cancel my flights is 100$ too) and I think that´s okej because now I can cancel the ticket and book new ones in case the prices drops!

My only concerns now is, what happens if the ship is late to New York? I´m flying with British Airways and I have only good things to say about them so I think that they will let me change my tickets without to much extra money if they have seats left on a later plane but what happens if everything is sold out?

Will your authorities let me in in the US if I don´t have a valid ticket to get out? Will your authorities make NCL to get me out of the country? (if an airline fail to check that the passengers have the valid documents to get into the country of destination, it´s their responibility to get the passenger back to where he/she came from, is it the same with a cruisecompany?)

I´m not really worried that anything shall happen but it´s always good to know as much as possible!

i believe she is on her first week of a two week cruise so you may not hear from her for a little while. hey if you get stuck in the US they should let you stay with not much of hassle so long as you bring some Euros with you.

Thank you for your answer Eric.

Normally I would love to stay for some days in the US but in this case, if the ship is late, it would be better if your autorities force NCL to get us back to where they picked us up! NCL will then later ask us for money but if we don´t get into the US because NCL get us there late, can they really force us to pay for the tickets back to Europe?

Erik,

No matter what the situation, if you do you air on your own NCL will not re-imburse you if something goes wrong whether your fault, their fault or the airline's fault.

Eric....your travel agent is WRONG! If you buy trip insurance for the ENTIRE AMOUNT that you paid for cruise and air it WILL be covered. Also make sure you get the "cancel for any reason" clause. As you live abroad I can't tell you what companies or websites to go to but you can find them there. If you need to call the companies first before you purchase and ask THEM what they cover....sounds like your TA doesn't know anything about insurance.

Sakedad is right. The cancel for any reason insurance is very expenisve, but it still might be worth checking into. Good luck, keep us posted and let's hope you buy insurance and never have to use is. Someone told me many years ago, insurance is the one thing you spend money on and hope it is a waste.

Thank you SakeDad and Nita.

You are probably right that it´s possible to buy an insurance from an american company that will cover more than the insurance my TA can offer, thank you for mention that possibility.

I think that the problem might be that my TA can´t book the cruise directly from NCL, she must book through a specialist which are specialized on for example cruises. Then she has to book the planetickets and since it´s not a normal roundtrip the place where she book the cruise doesn´t sell them! Does that make any sence at all?

In Sweden it´s not normal to buy/sell an insurance that cover two separate bookings so my TA can´t offer that. Of course I can get an insurence that cover everything because it´s possible to insurence everything, it´s just a matter of how much you are willing to pay!
