GET YOUR MONEY BACK if you can. Just got off the Jade for the British Isle cruise July26 th. It's the worst cruise I have ever been on!!!!! Started at the airport - NCL books your air, and were were on STANDBY -couldn't get us on the plane. Finally got a flight out on our own initiatiuve and at our expense or we would have missed the cruise. Suitcases did not get to the cabin until the SECOND day so we only had what had in our carry on. Cabins were inconsitently cleaned (read: hardly ever) Loud exhaust fan beside the cabin so we couldn't sleep. Free style dinner service really means "Stand in line." Food service was disgusting - every night waiting between 30 minutes and an hour between appetizer and entree. Some nights we got rolls - some we didn't. Some nights were were offered coffee - others we were not offered it at all. Waitress did not write down orders, and got them wrong EVERY night. They ran out of orange juice on the seond day and also coffee cream, so we had none during the rest of the two week cruise. Tips are automatically included - you have no choice - and the service is so bad you wouldn't have paid them on your own. On tours, they tried to overcharge for many of them. While the staff is polite, they do NOT go out of their way to introduce themselves, or do any thing for you. Also, the main shortcut is through the casino, which is disgustingly filled with cigarette smoke. Cabins are small are dark and dirty. Just a few of horrific the highlights. Earlier this year we took the Royal Caribbean Caribbean cruise out of San Juan. Highly recomend that line!!!!

allaboutginger;

Reading your post gave me a migraine! I'm sorry you had a bad time. My husband & I have sailed on several NCL cruises & have loved them all. Don't get me wrong, everything wasn't always perfect but nothing is.

As far as your comment about "Tips are automatically included - you have no choice", that is 100% false. If you ever have an issue with tipping or you feel tips are not deserved, all you have to do is go to the on-board reception desk & they will remove the tips from your On-board credit account.

You can't blame NCL for your airline troubles; they have no control if the airline puts you on standby. NCL would not purchase you a ticket on standby. Airlines usually overbook their flights; (maybe you checked in at the airport later than the airline recommended, causing you to be put on standby?). All you had to do is call NCL & explain the situation. They would have taken care of your air travel BECAUSE you booked it through them, provided being put on standby was not your fault.

NCL does not overcharge for excursions. Although you can book excursions with an independent tour company, they do not guarantee that you will get back to the ship before it leaves port. If you are on an excursion booked through NCL & it's delayed for some reason, they will make sure you get back to the ship or the ship will wait, if possible. Either way, they take care of it. That seems to be worth a little more money as I doubt anyone wants to be stuck in some port as their ship sails away!

I'm not sure which cabin you were in; obviously some will be louder than others due to the necessary equipment on the ship (it has to go somewhere!). You should always ask your travel agent about the cabin you book on any cruise line to avoid that happening to you again.

As far as the casino, they do allow smoking so there's no avoiding it. I am not a smoker, I hate cigarette smoke. There are other ways to navigate around the ship to avoid the casino entirely, that's what I did.

Bottom line, based on your "review", you'd probably be better off not traveling w/NCL again. Hopefully, your next cruise will exceed your expectations

WOW. Sorry to hear about your experience with the Jade. I've read many reviews of the Jade and have found mixed feelings. Some as extreme as yours but others very much the opposite. Taking that into account I still went with the Jade because it fit my dates of travel and the ports my family wanted to visit. Plus the price was absolutely cheap since it was inbetween Thanskgiving and X-mas/New Years. Plus the military discount didn't hurt

I agree with 1Pita about the problems you had with your flight. It is not NCL fault for airline issues. However, if I had booked my flight with NCL I've would have been on the phone with them ASAP to get them to help. However, since I booked my flight separately I purchase a very cheap (but quality) travel insurance to safe guard our vacation.

I am also curious about what kind of cabin you got as well. I think we all agree that not all cabins on a cruise ship are premuim no matter what ship you are on. Was your cabin experience taking into consideration the kind of cabin you purchased?

As for the food..well I will definitely be on the lookout in this area. I'll keep your words in the back of my mind. Because like most people I love to eat and the quality of the eating experience will most definitely make or break the cruise for me.

I'll promptly post back on this forum my experiences from a very very green rookie cruiser point-of-view. Again this will be my very first time on a cruise.

Please keep the comments coming.

All I can say things go better if you follow directions. NCL makes it clear it is up to the pasenger or their TA to confirm and select seats on the flightsas soon as you get the details. That would have addressed the airline issue in advance.

That said had things still gone bad I would have been on the hotline.

NCL's Flight Assistance Hotline - While Traveling En-Route

Let's face it, sometimes unforeseen things happen; bad weather, delayed flights and even cancellations. If your flight is changed or a weather-related delay leaves you stuck while you're traveling to one of our Freestyle Cruises®, don't panic. The first thing you should do is immediately advise an airline representative at the airport that you are a guest of Norwegian Cruise Line, and you are on your way to join our cruise ship. Usually, they can arrange alternative flights at the airline counter, so you can get to your ship or hotel package destination.

After you learn your new flight arrangements, please contact NCL's "Flight Assistance Hotline" at 1-800-456-7179, as soon as possible, with your new flight. The call is toll-free and our representatives are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Please note: This special number is operational only in the United States and Canada. Outside of the U.S. and Canada you may reach us at 1-305-468-2029 and we accept collect calls.

Important: The above numbers are for emergency use only for unforeseen delays. If you have any other questions, please contact your travel professional. NCL is not responsible for any airline delays.

My, the typical first time cruiser with nothing but problems. Lost luggage, stand by flights etc, not the fault of the cruise line regardless of what line you cruise.

Bad food, that is subjective, but just because I am satisfied does not everyone will be. AS for waiting to be seated, if there were just 2 of you and you were willing to share a table I am surprised you had to wait 30 minutes to an hour. We have cruised 7 times freestyle now and this has never happened to us. Only time we waited and we even had reservations was on the Jewel, but there were about 20 of us, all from CC roll call (shoreguy was with us) we did have to wait about 15 minutes.

Running out of creamer 2 days into the cruise and not offering a substitute seems inexcusable but also a little fishy. It would seem they would replenish at the next port, not to mention the kitchen noramlly knows how to plan a little better than to run out of anything 2 days into a 14 day cruise. I can see this happening 2 days before the end of the cruise.

Obviously you didn't have a good trip, for that I am sorry, if housekeepig was as bad as you say, you could have had the tips removed, but you would need to try and iron out the problems with the housekeeping manager first. All lines are now doing the auto tipping, or most anyway.

I do hope you enjoy your next cruise better and obviously NCL is not for you.

We'll be cruising with you, crashjet. We originally booked this date on Jade as a trans-Atlantic from Barcelona to New York, but NCL decided to keep Jade in the Mediterranean for the winter and our plans changed accordingly.

If you are new to cruising, I'd guess you'll appreciate NCL's freestyle dining, as you are free to have dinner in the restaurant of your choice, at the time you want, with whom you'd like (or just the three of you), and without overbearing dress codes to conform with.

We've sailed Norwegian Jewel, the same class ship as Jade, on a trans-Atlantic two years ago and enjoyed her very much. Our experience was diametrically opposite to allaboutginger's. Sometimes when someone has a perceived major problem early in a vacation trip, it can color everything that happens afterwards--especially when it's on a cruise line other than that person's usual and favorite. My advice is to embark on your cruise looking for good times and not problems, and you'll have a very enjoyable cruise. See you on-board.

We are looking at a day trip to Cairo. The second day we'll do an Alexandria tour and then spend time at the recently-built spectacular library.
