Default first time cruiser

I am getting nervous when reading the posting on the NC cruises. I just booked on on the Jewel yesterday. Can anyone tell me what is good about the ship, what I can plan on doing for activites, etc. Thank you

We were just on the Jewel at the end of Oct , into Nov. for 12 repositioning cruise to Miami.

I was blogging from the ship every day. Here's a link to my first report. Just start there and you can read each of the daily blogs. We had a GREAT cruise!

Thank you. I read quickly most of your entries and it sounds like you like it. I am getting cold feet that I will be nickled and dimed to death though and the food is bad if I don't eat at the speciality restraunts. I thought everything was paid for on a cruise? Is the NC Jewel better than the carnival?

You have absolutely nothing to worry about with the Jewel. The free food is just fine. In fact the Garden Cafe (Lido Buffet) was as good as I have ever seen on any cruise ship. We did eat in some of the specialty restaurants and with the exception of Cagney's (worth the extra $20) it was about on par with the free restaurants. Check out the chicken wings in the Blue Moon (free). Is it better than Carnival? In my opinion each line has some things that they do better than the other.
You made a good choice. Go and enjoy.

The Jewel is a great ship, how anyone can find fault with it is beyond me, but we all have our own ideas.

The food is good to very good, yes, do try the wings as well as fish and chips in Blue Lagoon. they serve breakfast as well. Although the menu is limited it is a great place to grab breakfast if you ae in a hurry as many do not realize they offer it.

We liked the Mama's Kitchen and Le Bistro, DH loves Cagneys. so you can see everyone has his/her own idea on food. The only restaurant we really did not like was Tangos. Being raised in the southwest and eating really great Mexican food we almost laughed ourselves silly with what they called Mexican, So Western, Tex MEx, no matter what, it wasn't...

The crew is friendly, the cabins, not huge but very well laid out and the casino is fun, if loosing can ever be fun?

You will love the Jewel. You really don't have to spend one dollar more then the service charge. It is far easier then a traditional ship where you have to stuff envelopes with cash for tips. My first cruise I had no idea that I needed to scrap together $150 in cash the last day. I ended up in the casino trying to win enough for tips with my last $50. I did it

Create a budget and stick to it. Add $40 to it so you can do a Bistro dinner. Better yet order the Romance package from NCL before you sail. A bottle of wine in your cabin, chocolate covered strawberries, diner with wine at the Bistro, A great value for $70.

I have written a review of our cruise on the Jewel in September, look at the review section.

The food in the restaurants which are included is fine but if you go to Cagney's, don't miss their Banana Fosters!
