I'm considering going to Bermuda this summer on Norwegian Spirit from Boston. I'm from NJ and was going to book Norwegian Dawn from NYC. However the Spirit is $250 less per person and I can't ignore that.
Can someone give me their thoughts on the Spirit and how it compares to other ships I've been on. My wife and I are in our 50's. It will just be the 2 of us. We are not party animal types. We partake in much of the entertainment on cruises, but we are pretty laid back. In the past we've been on Carnival Victory, Legend, and Fascination, as well as Sapphire Princess. Princess was the nicest but the Carnival ships were all fine, too.
How is the NCL Spirit compared to these other ships as well as Dawn?
I have been on the Dawn 7 times and booked this summer to Bermuda for number 8. I have only been on the Spirit for a 1 night ctn. So not sure I can give a balanced answer
I to live in NJ and I can assure you there is no way I would go to Boston to take the Spirit to save $500. Depending on how you plan to get to Boston a good % of that will be consumed by travel cost. Now if I lived in Boston I would have a very hard time not taking the Spirit.
The Spirit is a bit smaller then the Dawn, has an Asian theme having been built for Star, overall a nice ship. The Spirit recently completed a 3 week drydock and is refreshed.
That said I still like the Dawn far better. The number one reason she has one of the best crews in the fleet. The ship docks 40 minutes from the house. I find the Dawn feels far less crowded then the Spirit (and I have done 1 night cruises on both). The staterooms a bit larger on the Dawn. The restaurant options are better on the Dawn (still good on the Spirit)
Your budget your call but I would go for the green option (today is earth day) and avoid the round trip to Boston.
We were on the Spirit 2 weeks ago and she looks like a new ship. Her time in drydock really spruced her up. We have not been on the Dawn but have been on the Sun, Pearl, Dream, Sea, Majesty,, and Pride of America and we were completely satisfied with the Spirit.
The crew was as helpful and friendly as any we have enountered in recent years. I would not hesitate to sail her again.
The only areas I noticed where she showed her age a bit are the tiny balcony (although adequate for us), no 'frig in the cabin and smaller overall cabin size (still fine for us).
I agree with magnolia, the Spirit is almost like a new ship. The beds are delightful, the service good and the food improved in the past year (thanks 2.0) I will only say one thing, remember Carnival cabins are larger than NCL or Princess. Other than that, I can'b believe you will not be happy with the Spirit..
Hi i just returned from the spirit repo cruise this morning. The Spirit is a great ship. The crew were friendly and always helpful. The food i thought was real good. The casino is a bit small, but ok. The rest of the ship is real nice. Can't tell you about the entertainment, didn't go to any shows, spent most of my time in the casino. I would not hesitate to do the Spirit again
