Default Penthouse Suites

Does anyone know the actual room sq ft and balcony sq ft of the AC deck 9 & 10 and AD penthouse suites on the Gem?

The website states that the balcony on AC deck 9 suites is larger than the balcony on deck 10 suites. But the deck plan picture of the suite's balcony on deck 10 appears larger than those on deck 9. A little confusing?? javascript:emoticon('')

Also, has anyone stayed in both the AC & AD suites and can tell me the differences between them?

I tried to find a picture that demonstrates the deck plans for rthe Gem and Pearl are not completely correct. I found this one. First notice the bump out on the two interior ACs on deck 10 the reason for the larger cabin space and smaller balcony.

It is not totally clear but the deck 9 balconies are deeper.

I had an AC balcony suite on Deck 9 of the Norwegian Jade. (Sister ship)

I had cabin 9502 and while the cabin was larger than an AE (9670) the balcony was huge but could not be used while underway because of the strong winds. Also, the balcony door is a bulkhead door that takes a bit of strength to open and close.

I would take the "cabin" again in a heartbeat but I will go with an Aft balcony AE or AD cabin in the future because of the balcony.

Here are a couple of pictures:

The balcony door:

Take care,
Mike

We were not very happy with having an aft balcony in our AE Penthouse on the Jade but compared to a front balcony which can't be used when the ship is at sea an aft balcony must be much better!

If we don't want to spend enough money to get a Courtyard Villa on our next cruise, we will probably get a AE or AD Penthouse instead of the AC we were thinking about. A balcony on the side is defenitely our number one choice but the cabincategories with that are limited.

Just curious, why were you not happy with the AE? We're booked in an AE on the Jewel in August and this will be our first AE.

We had an AE on the Dawn last fall, but the upsell fairy called and we ended up in an Owner's Suite. That had a front AND a side balcony. The front was nice in port, the side was great at sea.

We were very happy with our AE but we should have preferred to have our view to the side instead of aft.

The balcony was very nice but we didn't really saw anything from it.

That is why they have cabins on both sides, forward , and aft everyone has different preferences. I have seen an awful lot from my aft balconies.

Of course everyone has different preferences. I have heared that many really likes the aft balconys and I can understand them too, it was very quite there so it was nice to sit there but on our cruise the view from there wasn't very good.

We should enjoy to have cabins on the side which are better and bigger than the minisuites but cheper than the AB-Penthouses, which also has a 2nd bedroom we don't need.

The text on the door on Mike M:s picture says: "OPEN ONLY WHEN THE VESSEL IS IN PORT. TO AVOID DAMAGE KEEP THIS DOOR LOCKED AT SEA" = the balcony can't be used when the ship is at sea!

On our OS on the Dawn there were a couple of sea days where the cabin stewards removed the furniture from the forward balcony as a precaution. They didn't want the lounge chairs crashing through the window.

It was a tad rough on those days.

that says it but you can use it, during strong storms they will ask you to keep it closed

It can be used at sea but it depends on the weather and wind direction. We had no problem even at the North Cape. Clearly not a place to sit out and get a tan
