NCL GEM
Have been on many cruises but never on the GEM. Cruising out of NY leaving Jan 22, 2010. How is it aboard this ship? Anyone sail out of NY in winter?

I have sailed out of NYC every Feb. since 2004. Been on the Gem 3 times. Sailing from NYC in winter is special you really get a sense of real travel. By the afternoon of the first sea day you have left frigid NYC behind and cruising in the Gulf Stream. The best cruise was the blizzard in 2006 on the Dawn. Absolutely unforgetable.
Lots of other pictures from NYC winter cruises and the Gem on my webshots. The link is in my signature or click on the picture below. |

Thanks for your reply and info. Husband & I looking forward to this trip. As I said, never sailed from NY. Great thing...no airports for us which could be a hassle in winter.

For no airport in winter I would cruise on a barge. :D All I could think of when I drove into the city in 20" of snow was how happy I was not one of 1000s stuck in NYC airports for two days while their ships sailed without them from FL.

I've sailed out of NY in winter twice. Once on the Dawn & once on the Gem. We've had fantastic weather, smooth sailing & a delightful trip; we've also been tossed around like a dingy. You can usually lay out by the 2nd day.
We're flying tto Miami for this year's trip b/c I just don't want to deal with the long trip home -- 2 days at sea -- again. The carribbean itinerary is great. The Gem is a beautiful ship although her color combinations are a bit loud for my tastes. When you get back it is nice to walk off the ship, hop in a car service & be home rather than having to deal with airports & more travel that last day. |
