Default How are the seas out of NYC ?

Just looking for some feedback on the seas out of NYC i understand they can be a bit on the rough side. Cruising on the Gem in April.

My first cruise out of NY was a little rough but i tend to get motion sick. I wore the patch and was fine. Our second cruise out of NJ was also a little rough and again i wore the patch and was fine. Everyone around me seemed to be doing ok too. I hear the water is a bit more rough out of NY/NJ though. Going on a cruise out of Miami this summer so we shall see the difference if any.

I've cruised out of NY a couple of times. The first day can be a bit choppy (which is often true sailing out of LA too), but we certainly didn't experience any sea sickness.

If you happen to hit a storm anywhere you sail, you can see the "white bags" being placed all over the ship

I have sailed out of NY about 5 times; the seas have usually been fine. If there is weather on the east coast you might feel something, but it has nothing to do with NY harbor.

I have to say I avoided sailing out of Manhattan for years, cause I heard about those seas, especially off the coast of North Carolina entering the Gulf Stream.

Well, I think we must be very lucky. We've sailed out and in probably about 10 times now, and have never had anything but seas of glass, as early as May, and as late as October.

If you are prone to Motion Sickness, take Bonine before the cruise. This always keeps me comfortable. If you wait until you feel queezie----too late.

Another tip------book a cabin on the lower decks---mid ship. Less rocking down there.
