Default Debit Cards?

I do not use credit cards and am wondering if anyone knows how much NCL holds and if an amount is held on top of what you are spending daily? Any other issues with using debit?
I know on the NCL website it says that for cash they require a $100 per day, but from my previous cruise experience I know I won't be spending that much. We have pre-paid our gratuities and plan on calling to put money on our onboard account to cover the shore excursions that we have booked through the cruise line.
Thanks for any input.

I would never use a debit card on a ship, they may well take a floor limit amount from your card & depending on your financial situation this could give you problems at home should S/O's etc come up. Also if anyone gets into your account it is your actual money they take not a credit card company's. I would get a credit card if this is possible.

You could get a prepaid Visa or MC..load it with more then what you know you will spend, just to be safe, and use it as well in the ports, or once you get home.

I'm thinking of this. If anyone hacks into it, the card account number is not tied to any debit nor main credit card number.

I know people have their own reasons for not having a credit card but they really are invaluable when traveling should some sort of problem occur.

You can put as much cash as you would like on your account, of course there needs to be enough to fund your daily gratuities etc.... If you max it out, they will inform you will need to add more money to the account. I have been known to just use traveller's checks to fund my onboard account and if I need extra cash they will cash them onboard.

The trouble with cash or TC's (didn't know they still actually issued those) is funds can run out. CC is the best way I think unless of course someone just can't have one. On our last cruise we got a bill in Feb & had to pay it in March if we didn't want to incur interest..the cruise was Dec-Jan.
