Surcharge increased for Norwegian Breakaway's Ocean Blue restaurant
Norwegian Breakaway has been in service for two weeks and already the company has adjusted the price for an extra-fee dining venue. Ocean Blue - by Geoffrey Zakarian, an upscale seafood restaurant, will now cost $49 per person. The fee was $35. Reservations previously made under the $35 fee will be honored. Must be very popular and they figure they can make more profit by charging more. Just like with cruises, it's all about supply and demand; if the demand is great, they're going to raise the rates. But right off the top of my head, I can't think of another specialty restaurant that charges that much, so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

At the ship's naming ceremony, Kevin Sheehan mentioned in a conference that they could charge more for Ocean Blue and not impact reservations for the place. So, they were thinking about doing this before the first cruise from NYC. It might be a little stiff for some guests given it is $100 for a couple, and then you still have to buy any wine you might like. May 29th, 2013 04:13 PM

While I like NCL, I've always been one that really didn't think their food in the main dining room was all that great, so we eat in the specialty restaurants on a regular basis. I always tell clients to figure spending at least an extra $100 - $200 while on an NCL cruise because of the many specialty restaurants - guess now I'm going to have to up that advice by another $100 for those going on the Breakaway!
