Who here considers NCL their favorite cruise line?

Lately the CEO of NCL said they have had a drop off in first-time cruisers, they have been relying on repeat traffic. This is true industry-wide, but I am just curious...

How many Norwegian-loyal cruisers do we have here?

And what is your reason?

Mike M August 4th, 2013 01:55 PM

I have to say that, overall, NCL is my favorite cruise line.

The main reason is: Freestyle cruising. This feature is no longer "unique" to NCL but I like the variety of dining times and venues, relaxed, but not abolished, dress codes, decent cabins and great and diverse entertainment.

The overall cruise fares are on par with other mass market lines but you do need to budget $100 - $150 additional per person to truly experience the alternative dining.

It's interesting that my favorite cruise line has my least favorite ship. Epic left a bad taste in my mouth. The entertainment was great, the service wonderful, food EXCELLENT but the ship's look, design and cabins, left such a negative impression on me that I have no desire to sail on Epic again. I know it's a bit weird but it's just how I feel.

I REALLY looking forward to sailing on Breakaway. I think they took what's right with Epic and kept it and took away what was wrong with Epic and dumped it.

Take care,
Mike

I too would have to say that overall NCL is my favorite cruise line. It's not the only cruise line I sail but it is my favorite.

Reasons: Freestyle cruising.
Overall cruise fares.
Great entertainment.

The main reason, we had a few problems on past cruises and NCL was there to make things right.

Ncl ships: Sky (2002), Pride of Aloha (July 4,2004),
Star (2005 & 2009), Pearl (2008 & 2010)
and Jewel (2013).

I have only cruised NCL once, 2nd is coming up in December, but I really enjoyed the Freestyle concept as compared to my other cruises on Carnival and Princess. The food was excellent and the entertainment great. The staff was wonderful and actually seemed happy.

While every cruise line has their pluses and minuses, Norwegien really seemed to have it all together in my opinion.

I love NCL.

I have cruised 21 times and 19 have been with NCL Sailed three other lines but i liked NCL the best.

Love NCL and have sailed 4 times since 2010 with 3 more booked in next 10 months. I find the staff to be the most genuinely friendly from the Captain right on down. Senior staff are very visible and make themselves available to those who attend the Meet and Greets with business cards handed out with direct phone numbers should a problem arise. Entertainment is throughout the ship, not just in the main theatre. Much better than any other line we've cruised IMO, especially the newest ships. The Freestyle atmosphere allows you to eat where and when and with whom you like. Yes, I know some of the other lines have "my time" or similar. Trust me, it is not the same. We have twice been in suites and the perks are great.

Next up is Epic, and looking forward to Blue Man Group and Cirque, Legends, Fat Cats Blues Club, Howl at the Moon. I can put up with an unusual cabin design for that:-P. Then the Getaway and POA in 2014.

Epic has great entertainment. My personal favorite in that department. Not only Blue Man Group but also Legends at Sea. Second City is good, too.

NCL Lifer

I am new to cruising, my first cruise was in the Haven on the Epic. Many reasons why we sailed on the Epic. I was always afraid of the typical, negative thoughts of cruising...Old people fighting in a buffet line, set times for dinner, screaming kids stuck on a ship...Not For Me! Then came NCL! From the ad's I saw, it was different. We stayed in the haven just in case we didn't like cruising. At least we could hide from everyone. NCL has shown me that cruising is the only way to vacation. From the first moment on the Epic we were treated like rock stars. All the staff knew our names, always with a hello and a smile. The suite was amazing...I know I have ruined my standard by staying in the best first. Over all the entertainment was more than we expected. The food was better than most restaurants on land. I am already booked on the Dawn and looking to book on the Getaway in 2015. I can see why some new customers do not want to sail on NCL. When researching our first cruise, we were put off by the size and "shape" of the rooms compared to other lines. And there is a lot of negative feed back online about this. But the good out weighed the bad. Now, I am a NCL Lifer!

Congrats Rumble

I am ALWAYS happy to meet a new satisfied cruiser. By the way, you made a very good choice for your first cruise, the Haven on Epic is a very nice spot, and you were separated from the hoy palloy.

Epic has a lot of positive attributes, but it is a big and somewhat crowded ship. You made sure you could dine in the Haven's private restaurant (which I have tried and I love it).

THE ENTERTAINMENT ON EPIC MAY BE THE BEST AT SEA. I am partial to "Blue Man Group" however, it is one of my most favorite shows in the world. I actually started recommending it to cruise lines as far back as 1994.

I also think the "Legends at Sea" is one of the best shows I have seen on a cruise ship. I am not sure why they didn't extend it to other NCL ships, my guess is that it was too expensive, but it is good.

NCL is our favorite. It is based upon the fact that we have always received excellent service, attention, good food, and entertainment.

I have not (yet) tried other lines other than Celebrity. I had a wonderful time on Celebrity, but enjoy the vibe from NCL. It is a bit more relaxing and fun.

Moderno Churrascaria on Dawn disappointed me compared to Epic's Moderno Churras

Moderno Churrascaria on Dawn disappointed me compared to Epic's Moderno Churrascaria. On the Epic the atmosphere, the decor and the location over the main dinining room and the band playing plus an elegant layout of the food spoiled me. I was disappointed with the lack of atmosphere of the Moderno Churrascaria being right over the main lobby. I still loved the cuisine and the service was outstanding on the Dawn, but I will go back on the Epic just to enjoy that specialty restaurant.

Just off the 12-07 Epic sailing and had a great time. I can't say that the cabin design was appealing, but it was an aft-facing and we loved it. If we weren't on the balcony, we were either sleeping, changing or out and about, so the design had little impact on our enjoyment of the cruise. We did not see Blue Man as we had seen them in Chicago and there were so many other things to do. We thought Cirque Dreams was excellent. We had balcony rail seats and when the performers were up on the ropes, they were at eye level, a few feet away. Legends....Steven Tyler was absolutely spot on! I tell you, the ladies nearly fainted when they saw him walking through the ship! Sneak out before Katy Perry starts;). She is no legend! Entertainment everywhere, a very lively atmosphere, but you could always find a quiet place.

I have been on 3 NCL cruises and 2 Carnival cruises. I love the freestyle concept and will continue to cruise with NCL. Carnival had too much of a party atmosphere for me. I'm more of a relaxed, do thing at my own pace type and NCL suits me the best so far. :)

Have only cruised NCL. It was our first and we've never had a bad experience. We thought about others but the FreeStyle cruising is best for us.

Best Time Ever April 16th, 2014 11:25 AM

I have to tell you NCL is now my favorite, reasons are the world has changed for many baby boomers as myself( statue change) so I am now a solo traveler, four of NCL Ships have provided interior rooms for solo travelers who still want to cruise and enjoy the cruising experience with out paying the high supplement I am hoping that others lines will adopt and update their views toward the solo traveler, I am a Diamond member on RCCL they have my heart still but NCL has my wallet because of the single supplement, plus they have a very good product which can compare with the best of them

Almost all ships now offer their style of 'anytime' dining, so that concept is readily available on pretty much all cruise lines. And I'm really excited about the new Quantum of the Seas and it's very unique dining options - looks like they're offering something for everyone.

As for single rooms, others, including RCCL are considering the concept, but so far they haven't put it in practice yet. However, I do know that Holland America (and occasionally Celebrity) have been offering single rates without the double price a little bit more often than they were. Funny how that comes and goes. They were very good at it for a while, then went away from it, and are now starting to slowly come back to it.

Had a single client just a few weeks ago who called me and wanted to book a cruise on NCL. When I asked him why NCL, his response was it was cheap for singles. I asked if he had considered Holland America. His response was he loves Holland America and that would be his first choice, but it's too expensive. I then asked if he would mind if I did some research and see what I could do for him and, of course, he got excited about the possibility. Needless to say, he was really thankful when I found him a Holland America cruise that was exactly what he wanted and the price was only $50 more!

Not trying to push Holland America and I'm not trying to bash NCL, just trying to show that often there is more than one option available. It's like 'freestyle' dining - often people have the misperception that NCL is the only cruise line offering it, so they put their blinders on and don't consider anything else. Yet as I stated, pretty much everyone offers it now. So you just have to give your agent a chance to do some research for you and see if they can find something else to consider - might find that NCL is the best choice, but then again, you might also find a pleasant surprise you hadn't thought about.

Paul, I have booked my first cruise with NCL. I have only been on RCI.
Reading so much fantastic feedback about Freestyle cruising, the entertainment, and wonderful staff; this is why I booked a NCL cruise. Although it's not until next year I am looking forward to the NCL experience.

At the moment NCL are my favourite cruise line, I am pleased to see they are going to bring the older ships in line with the new ones as my last cruise with them on the Norwegian Spirit fell way short of my previous cruise on the Epic. I see Norwegian as industry innovators and love the Freestyle Cruising concept; it is ideal for me and my family.
