NCL crew member killed in Roatan?
I saw something on FB that really had no more info than the headline I put above. Does anybody have more info? Is this truth or fiction?

It's sadly true. From what I heard it was close to port and he was shot twice by a man on a bike who then stole his cell phone. They have some type of video from a camera and know who their looking for.
The crew members name was Jacob and was from the Philippines and 27 years old.
NCL was pulling Roatan from it's itinerary for the next sailing.

Yes, from what I have read, a 27 year old from the Philipines who was employed as a cook on the Pearl was shot and killed in a robbery in an area near the port where crew often go for food and free wifi. He reportedly had a young child at home back in the Philipines.

Norwegian has cancelled all of it's port calls there, at least for this week. That decision is somewhat controversial and has become a hot topic on some of the boards. Some contend the incidence of crime is no worse there than in many other Caribbean ports of call.

In any case, very sad for the young man and his family.

HOw horrible, and all for a phone?? We have the same problem here in the states, with cell phone robberies...Thoughts and prayers for the young man's friends and family...

What a sad sympathy goes out to his family, and his cruise family.....back in 2011, a man was robbed and killed in Naples, right near the ship, for his Rolex.

The NCL employee was going about his business, and the cruiser was in a vacation mode..both gone in a senseless minute...:(

Yes, it reminds me of US kids getting shot for their Jordan's.

As a crew it would be tough to return to a port where you lost a colleague.

That is truly a sad piece of news, a young man away from his family trying to make a better life for them all, only to have it taken away in a sickening crime.

My heart goes out to his family, friends and crew mates.

It was truly very sad - Even more so that I was on that cruise - and walked passed the place where he was shot about 45 min before it happened - we were heading back to the ship as we didnt feel safe in the area

You punish them financially until they learn that cruise passengers and crew members are off-limits for violent crime.

The entire industry should enforce a 12 month ban on Roatan.
