Default Convert me to Norwegian

Hi everyone.......I have only sailed on Allure and Oasis on RCI but am interested in Norwegian. I would like to sail out of Tampa and am interested on your experiences on ships that sail out of this port. How is the food and the entertainment? I really am not picky and honestly have never had bad food on a cruise, but i am just interested in your thoughts. Thanks in advance to all who contribute!

Kerry

Default NCL

Hi Kerry. The cruise line is good. I have been on Carnival, Princess, Holland and NCL all with my son. He is actually on his 4th NCL cruise now. He is a vegetarian and we never had an issue with food. If u like a cocktail or 2 get the beverage package. Drinks are a bit more then other cruise lines. Staff is great. Rooms are nice we always get balcony. My son, his partner and I are planning the baltic capitals in 2017. This time I am getting a studio.

If you sail out of Tampa you won't be on a ship the size of Oasis or Allure. The smaller ships sail; because of the Sunshine Bridge limitations. I like NCL because you do not have to dress up for dinner; and you don't have to have set reservations every night. I sailed on Jade and it was a nice ship and service was great.

I sailed the Epic twice and the Gem, and will be sailing on the Escape soon...love the pay restuarants, food was delish...love the relaxed dress onboard..I've never subscribed to always sailing one line..give it a go...what ship sails from Tampa ?

We've been on 50 cruises on 12 different cruise lines, including several on NCL. I have to admit that we were not a big fan of NCL - found them to be okay, but not what we personally like in a cruise. As I've always said, what one person loves, another will hate. With that said, we're in our mid-60's a prefer a more sedate relaxing upscale cruise, like Holland America or Celebrity.

In December last year, we decided to try the NCL Getaway and I have to admit, we were pleasantly surprised as we found it to be a very nice cruise. There were plenty of activities for families, the service was good, and the food was also good. We tried 3 of the specialty restaurants and found the steakhouse to be very good, as always.

We especially liked O'Sheehans!

The only thing we did not like at all were the 2 shows in the main show lounge. Both were not good at all. Choreography was poor, music was WAY too loud, and we ended up leaving less than half way through both shows. The entertainment in the other parts of the ships was nice enough - it was just the main shows that were not good at all.

As was pointed out, ships leaving out of Tampa are going to be smaller because of having to sail under the bridge. Not necessarily a bad thing, as often smaller ships provide a more intimate atmosphere. But at the same time, they don't have all the amenities available on the larger ships. Really depends on what you're looking for and, of course, the budget.

It's always good to try different cruise lines, as you never know which one will fit you the best.

Pete

I believe the Norwegian Jade is sailing out of Tampa right now. I have not sailed on this ship but I have been on the "Pearl" which is a sister ship and we had a awesome time! Food is always good on NCL and Entertainment has been good on the 2 NCL cruises we have taken so far.

What we like about NCL is the "Freestyle" concept of cruising. No assigned dining times and definitely not as formal as other lines are. You are free to eat where you like, several pay for dining venues or eat at one of the 2 main dining rooms, whenever you like.

Entertainment is on par or better then most cruise lines we have sailed on which includes, Carnival, Princess, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, and afternoon sea days have plenty to do for those who don't like to lay in the sun.

I sailed on Jade last year. I thought the food was good; ship was in great shape; shows were very good; but the crew was awesome. The Captain and his crew had a meet and greet; they said if you have something go wrong or feel we are not giving you a excellent vacation; please let us know right away. We want everyone onboard to have a wonderful vacation. Not too many companies have that type of customer service.
