Oceania Cruises plans to inaugurate its second ship, the Insignia, at
a March 28 ceremony in Monte Carlo with Virginia Watters serving as
the godmother, Seatrade Insider has learned. Watters is the wife of
Oceania chairman Joe Watters.
Some 350 VIP guests including investors, travel agent partners and
the media are expected to board the ship on its arrival at Monte
Carlo on March 27 and will overnight prior to the daytime christening
ceremony. The guests will then sail on a special voyage to Barcelona,
arriving April 1. Insignia's maiden cruise with revenue passengers
departs later that day, bound for Piraeus.
The former R One is undergoing a drydock refurbishment at T.
Marriotti in Genoa and will emerge from the refit 'with her own
distinctive style and character,' according to Oceania spokesman Tim
Rubacky.
Meanwhile, Oceania is gearing up for the Regatta's maiden call
celebrations in Los Angeles, set for Jan. 26 and 27.
