I don't like the format on Yahoo as well as here (and other boards) but Oceania is giving away a free party to people who sign up on that board, so that's where the action is! (but I do wish more Oceania pax would post here, too) Martha

Free party? To me, that means that Oceania springs for the cocktails. If it's nothing more than the Cruise Critic type of party, then that's not much of an incentive, in my opinion.
The Oceania parties held for members of the Yahoo! OceaniaCruiser message board are REAL cocktail parties, with complimentary drinks, snacks, ship's photographer, plenty of circulating waitstaff , and usually, some ship's officers in attendance.
These are definitely not the usual lemonade and pretzel events, but full-blown, first-rate Oceania cocktail parties.
I hate to ask a stupid question, but here I go, I can’t find a trip on the Miami to Miami cruise that doesn’t originate in England. Can one just pick up the cruise in Miami? From the US? We saw the Regetta in Casa De Campo D.R. it looked like a nice size ship we were on the Celebrity Millennium, and we have been on many mega boat cruises and are looking for something a little more exclusive. Any comments would be appreciated. Michael M

I am seriously considering booking a Caribbean cruise on the Regatta.
We have been on 20 cruises, mostly larger ships and my wife likes the nightlife onborad, including the shows. We do not gamble.
I would like to try the Oceania Lines, but am a bit concerned that by 10;m, the ship "goes to sleep". Can anyone tell me if there is a nightlife and entertainment onboard? Are there at least a lounge or two where live music is played for listening and dancing?
As far as food is concerned, I have read enough good reviews that I have no qualms in that department. Don't much care about cabin size either, as we only use the cabin for sleeping. We are up early on deck for breakfast and spend the day outside. Change for dinner and usually get back in the cabin between midnight and 1am.
If anyone can put my fears to rest abuot this being too small and too "quiet" a ship, I am ready to book. My travel agent (sister-in-law) has been trying to get us on Oceania for the last year.
By the way, in the last 3 years we have sailed 2 Millenium class Celebrity ships, 2 Radiance class RCL ships and 2 Voyager class RCL ships. Inbetween we did a cruise on HAL and felt that ship was starting to feel small and definitely on the quiet side.

If you prefer large ships with lots of action and nightlife, I really think you should pass on Oceania.
Oceania offers a 685 passenger, 4-5 star food, open seating dining w/4 restaurants, country club casual attire, no children/teen activities, few on board activities other than 3-4 bars, a very small casino (with 2-3 Black Jack Tables and 20-30 slot machines-6 $1 slots), nightly entertainment consisting of a solo singer or comedian or ship staff or piano player, nightly lounge dancing w/no disco type music, wonderful spa/pool/cabins w/balconies and totally port intensive which includes one-two days beginning and end at sea and daily from 8 am to 5 pm port stops. For those of us adults who like to do port activities, come back to a fabulous/casual leisurely dinner followed by a drink/gambling or relaxing entertainment, it is perfection!!
For those of you looking for a bustling ship w/lots of kids/teenagers running around, loads of on board activities and entertainment, lots of passengers and assigned seating and formal nights plus disco dancing into the wee hours, I believe you will be very unhappy w/any of the Oceania ships.

Thank you for your very honest information regarding an Oceania cruise. As far as being "port intensive", I could take or leave the ports. Even the larger ships are very quiet during port visits - which is perfectly fine.
I like the idea of open seating and country club casual. No nned to lug a Tux and all of the accessories that go with it. I would be game to give this a try - just need to convince my wife that it is time to get off the Mass Market ships and step up to a bit more elegance and refinement.
I can certainly do without the kids and teens running all over. For that reason alone we usually cruise the weeks right before the December Holidays, rather than the holidays themselves where everything is noisy and crowded.
I will contact my travel agent to get some idea of pricing. We usually book inside cabins, as we are rarely in the cabin. Any thoughts about cabin selection on the Regatta. It's really not a money issue, but why waste it on a verandah if we would never use it. When on baord - we prefer to be in the public areas and meet and mingle with fellow passengers.
Would love to cruise on the Regatta next February but my husband is aprehensive about the smaller ship and motion sickness. We cruised Alaska last summer (our first cruise) through the Royal Caribbean and he did fine. Any comments about motion sickness on the smaller ship and open seas? He would wear the patch behind his ear but am afraid it wouldn't be enough. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Thanks.
How well is the very restricted smoking policy enforced onboard? It is one of the things which makes Oceania appealing to me that there will be very little smoking permitted anywhere, and none in the cabins, etc.

Hi: We are using Red Oct. for overall tour and ballet. They, Red Oct., are trying to arrange a canal tour, 1 hour. Theyt need 15 people and have 7. Are you interested?
I must be getting cranky; old is foregone. Why on earth would one want to "party" with people selected on no real basis when you are going to spend two weeks with the same people? A.
To A: Why party with people from the Yahoo Groups Board? Because as soon as I registered and began posting about my Insignia Venice-Athens cruise on Aug. 31, I received several e-mails from fellow cruisers, introducing themselves and sharing their excitement about our upcoming trip.
For the last 3 years I have "met" people through this and other cruise forums, whether in cyberspace or in person and have never been disappointed. We have made great friends and good travelling companions this way and we have all shared our cruise experiences with each other re: port excursions, shipboard life, etc. We've had welcome notes left in our cabin on arrival, and people to share a meal or taxi ride with from the very first day. It's just nice to know you "know" someone on board as soon as you arrive. Marsha
I'm checking via internet into the Regatta, Feb 20th trip. Haven't talked to any travel agents yet. Is there anywhere I can go to get prices without hooking up with a human at this time? Also....does anyone know what is offered on this cruise regarding excursions at ports etc? Thanks for any help. Is it impolite to ask fellow cruisers what you paid? Thanks.
My wife and I are on the Regatta on 2/20/04, this is the first time on Oceania Cuise Line, what do you think of Oceania and the Regatta? We have been on about a 12 crusies but never on a ship that is only 30,200 tonnage, do hope the sailing is smooth. Would like to hear comments on the above. Thanks
We were on the Insignia Oct 10 Venice-Athens sailing, and we loved it. Best cruise ever. My husband has a tendency towards motion sickness, and although he felt the motion more on this ship, he never felt ill.
We have always selected a cruise for the itinerary, but this ship was so right for us that we want to sail on it again so much (or Regatta, or the Nautica, coming into service in late 2005), that itinerary is secondary.
We too are trying Regatta on the 2/20/05 cruise with another couple. Have never been on this small a ship. Looking forward to it. Would like to chat with others on this crise.
The problem with waitng until the last minute with Oceania is they are sold out most of the time..right now they are 75% sold out for 2005..

Well, just four more days before we leave for Miami. Bags are pretty much ALL packed. Just want to kick back for 12 days, meet some new people, and enjoy the warm weather.
