Ask Me Questions

Tomorrow (3/25) I head for Marsailles, where I'll board Insignia in the shipyard and sail to Monte Carlo for the christening (3/28) followed by a four night cruise. I'll check this message board and answer any questions.

Since I love Regatta, I'm sure I'll be nuts about this ship as well.

Hi Anne

I'm wondering if you can help me find a tour guide for Balmoral Castle in Scotland. I'd like to do one without the ships tour. I've scanned the computer and can't seem to find the right keyword. Can you help? Thanks.

Re: Ask Me Questions

Anne-
Can you tell us what differences you see (if any) between the Insignia and the Regatta. There was mention of improvements being made on the Insignia. Frankly I can't think of any needed.

Ann,

I've heard some troubling comments that one can only make two reservations per alternative dining room "Toscana & Polo" per cruise. Is this true? and if so what is your recomendations for making the best of ones dining exepreience aboard.

thanks,
Seth

Anne,
I just heard that Oceania will not be charging for soft drinks and water. Has this started yet?

What TV channels are available in rooms? I hope to keep up with sports scores while on the Insignia.

Thanks!

Re: Re: Ask Me Questions

You are right, very little needed for these marvelous ships. But on Regatta I found the most comfortable, luxurious mattresses I've ever slept in. Oceania has them made in France. The Italian restaurant has been spruced up with new wallpaper, carpet and is very, very luxurious.

My two favorite ships!

Anne,
How was your cruise? Did it live up to your expectations? Also, were you able to find out about the soft drink, water prices? Thanks.
Joan

We are scheduled for he 4'24'04 Venice to Barcelona cruise. Haven't made any reservatios for the special excursions. Are they a good value and are there any special ones you would recommend?

Hi Anne,
We are booked on the May 31 Insignia cruise. How did you like the Insignia? We were thinking of either going 2 days ahead to tour Lisbon or 2 days after and tour London? What would be best to do with the least trouble? Have you heard about the excursions to any of the ports we will be visiting? I understand that this is the D-Day Theme cruise. Is there any special excursions planned? I am also looking for any other passenger who are traveling on this cruise. Janis

I read that Oceania Cruises has been listed on the Travel Guard Alert list as of
4/16/2004. What do you know about this situation and what it means for those who book Oceania cruises?

"Travel Guard Alert: Our policies no longer cover financial default for the following travel suppliers:

Company Effective Date
Oceania Cruises 04/16/2004"

(Oceania is the newest addition to the list.)

Re: Ask Me Questions

Travel Guard has removed Oceania from their list. It was apparently a communication snafu.

Re: Ask Me Questions

I have been advised through the mailing through Oceania that the transfer from Marco Pole will be $100 for my husband and me to the cruise boad terminal. Can we do better with our own arrangemnent at the airport. Its a 20 minute ride-I thought $1oo was steep. thanks for your help

Re: Ask Me Questions

Please let me know how this was. We are taking this ship in October. We went on a Renaissance cruise when it used to be which are now Oceania. Do they still have entertainment at night and what is the dress code. Do you know if there will be any younger people on board such as late 20's or 30's.

Re: Ask Me Questions

Why hasn't Anne Campbell come back here since April to answer the questions she said she would answer?

I want to know about how well the smoking policy is being enforced.

I would be really upset to learn (as some comments elsewhere indicate) that there are cigar smokers or other smokers on balconies or leaving smoke behind in cabins.

What is going on with this?

lakelodge May 22nd, 2004 01:46 PM

Re: Ask Me Questions

When we were on board in March, in 12 days I don't recall seeing (or smelling) even ONE cigarette! They seem to enforce this smoking policy very well. Martha

Re: Ask Me Questions

We were on board Insignia last week.. smoking is only allowed in certain areas on the ship and we had no problem with anybody around our cabin sneaking on the balconies to smoke...

Re: Ask Me Questions

Is Anne Campbell ill? Two months ago she said she would come back and answer our questions, but there is no second post from her in this thread.

Maybe she hated the ship and doesn't want to admit it???

We are thinking of booking Oceania for our 2005 cruise. Have any of you used their free airfares? We are concerned that the reason they are free is there are many stops before reaching your destination.

You can pay a "deviation" fee ($50) and select your own flights. See your TA.

I'm back from the Insignia and will gladly answer any and all questions about her! FYI: Nautica will not be joining the fleet untill at least 2006.

Re: Ask Me Questions

Sea Cruzer, I'm just curious, what are the numbers beside each cruise on your list? Your rating? We have been on several of the same ships, how do you rate Oceania as compared to the other lines? Martha

Andee July 13th, 2004 10:18 PM

Re: Ask Me Questions

I'm just guessing, but I thought those were dates. For example, this month would be 7.04. They seem to be listed in chronological order.

TheSeaCruzer July 13th, 2004 10:20 PM

Re: Re: Ask Me Questions

Martha,

The numbers are when I cruised them ex: 4.00 = April 2004.
I guess I need to figure about a better system for that.

As for how do I rate Oceania - I was not overly impressed with them. Food is no better than Celebrity or even Carnival. The entertainment was pathetic - I've never said that before and was shocked as to how bad it actualy was. I love the ship and the crew. Servace was great and truly classy - the crew treated you as if you were a member of their family. We made new friends with not only the passangers but as well with the crew - something I had never exeprenced before on a cruise.

All in all - - if I found a deeply discounted rate for them I would cruise them again - just not worth the extra buck.

I hope this helps

Seth
