Default theft on board Oceania

We recently returned from a Oceania baltic cruise. The cruise was great but when we left our luggage out for the required pick up on our last night, our ipod and portable speaker system was stolen from our luggage. We contacted Oceania several times with no response. What should we do??

Sorry to hear of this but appreciate the information. Now that we are unable to take anything aboard aircraft, one assumes to pack anything of value into checked luggage.

With info like this we will pack anything of value in our hand luggage and transfer them to our checked luggage prior to checking in at the airline. At least we will eliminate one area of theft.

Were the suitcases locked?

You can use TSA approved locks for any airlines and just use them on the ship after packing.

Putting unlocked bags out in the passageway is just asking to get robbed.

If it was the lock that came with the bag, just about any key will open it. You have no way of knowing if it was a passenger or a crew member.

Since you don't know, I doubt that Oceania will do anything.

The cruise was over 12K and mostly 60+ age, well healed travelers
I say it a 99% chance it is one of the staff. I have heard recently of other thefts on board Oceania. I beleive that if a cruise line has had a series of thefts that all crew that have access to luggage be polygraghed to find the culprits. thanks for the info on the locks

Maybe you can find another way to get compensated (not very satisfying, but it will work).

* Home Owners insurance?
* Trip insurance?
* Baggage protection plan on the CC that you charged the cruise to?
