Default Republican Convention

I'm sitting here quite annoyed because of the lack of coverage of the Republican convention by the major news outlets. Fox News just spent a great deal of time with the annoying Shep Smith reporting from some balcony in New Orleans about Isaac. The 'big 3' will be running repeats of shows.

I fully expect things will be quite different next week for the Democrat convention, because as any rational person knows the mainstream media is definitely doing whatever they can to carry Obama's water, and to bash Romney.

They may have to sedate Chris Matthews over at MSNBC.

Nothing really goes on until later. The Conventions have done the important stuff during prime time for years. No big conspiracy.

PBS Newshour has a full hour of RNC coverage from 4-5pm PDT every weekday this week. Next week will be the DNC.

You might give them a try, to at least get some of the coverage.

I just discovered a new channel on my DirectTV where I can watch 8 news chanels at once (and pick one to listen to) and I also saw that Shephard was in NOLA the whole time the convention was getting started..

So I went to his Facebook page and left a few critical notes about how ironic it is MSNBC had full coverage of the RNC while FOX gave a full hour to to Isaac

Anyway - right after Shephard I believe they saw that they were losing audience because Bill O'Reilly cut his show straight to the convention and Fox pretty much stayed there the rest of the night.

What is amazing me is that CNN is turning positiviely gushy about the Republican party. They love Mitt's kids and the ladies seem to really like Ann Romney.

I haven't said this yet, but I actually think the Republicans might win this one. I know it is close, but my gut says they are going to be able to show the emporor is naked.

The criticism was that they didn't praise Mitt much tonight, but they certainly made a lot of sense about their program of cutting taxes and government programs in order to balance budgets - they featured four different Republican governors who have done it - all of them from the swing states they need to win to get Mitt elected.

It is up to Mitt to come across big in his speech - he has got to loosen up and be real. Can he do it? I don't know but if he does I think Obama will look really bad making him out to be a vampire in the future.

I just hope they get into more specifics - they assume Americans are too well informed. Like Obama saying "They're going to take away your Student loans" Actually Obama was the one who killed Sallie Mae and put the government between you and your college education.

And if the Republicans change that it just means they are restoring student loans to non-government agencies - not taking them away.

Ann Romney saying Mitt helped establish a program to give 25% of the top high school students a college scholarship (althought I don't know the details of that) sounded impressive.

I watched the speeches, and really enjoyed them. I was disappointd that the convention was interrruped by Issac, but I also realize that is a big news story as well.

I look forward to the rest of this weeks, and then next weeks speeches, and then on to the debates.

The debates will be very interesting. We will be able to see who is the best liar.

TM

PS... Yes they have to lie, because we can't handle the truth.

Luanne, it's not that bad. It's the same BS as allways.

Did you see what happened on the convention floor when the Puerto Rican delegate tried to speak?

Anytime a non caucasian person spoke ,even during the rollcall at times the cameras focused on white delegates and you could see the looks on their faces as if to say ,enough already.

I have watched non stop for the last several days, and I saw none of that.

You must come up with something better than what a camera man does.

??? What important stuff? The point of a convention was to nominate a candidate. Is that happening? Should it take days? Is a gathering required to do it? Is there one iota of doubt who either party is going to put on the ticket? Why is any part of it televised?

So much has changed with our country, please don't wish that we loose this too.

That is standard fare for the Republican, and it has been going on for years.

Yes, that is happening, the important stuff like both national political parties nominating their candidates for the highest offices in the Nation. Political conventions are required by the law to nominate the President and Vice-President of each party. The convention is the "formal" nominating of the candidates and the general election funds and laws kick in at this point. It is televised so that the voters and citizens can actually hear their leaders speak to them and decide for themselves for whom they will vote.
