Default The price of oil and price at the pump is dropping

Can't wait for the conspiracy theorists to howl about that one.

Don't know where you are getting your information. Oil on the stock market was up to over $92 a barrel yesterday.

In early 2008 oil prices were higher than they are today.

I did a New Year's Eve cruise in 2007/2008 and the talk was how shocked people were that oil was going to go over 100$ a barrel.

Doesn't the market prices go up and down all the time?

Of course if we used what we have here, we wouldn't care what the markets and OPEC does.

Well, that's not quite true. The world markets will still dictate the price. Plus there's others factors... why did gas prices in California jump by around 30 cents/gal in a week? Because two refineries had production problems.

Up here, where I live, we have a massive oil and gas industry, yet our prices at the pump are significantly higher than what it is in the United States.

The refinery "problems" magically appear here occassionally as well. Last yr. two refineries happened to have to be shut down at the same time for "maintenance". Prices immediately jumped up.

Oil companies have their own enormous lobbying industry, which also directly affects the price of gasoline at the pump.

The difference is perhaps about where all the money you paid for gasoline would be going.

Even when Mitt Romney makes his promise of being energy self sufficient, he talks about North America being energy self sufficient, not just the United States.

Sadly, nothing is simple

Gasoline prices are not dropping in my area of the country. And I live in a city with a gasoline refinery in it.

If we used what we had here we would run out and be at the mercy of the rest of the world.

I imagine rmoney would look forward to building pipelines to Mexico and Canada. Maybe even to China.

So we do not use what we have here and we are at the mercy of the world.

We use up theirs first and then we got them.

Speaking of Iraq, you might have thought they would give our troops free or at least discounted gas and oil, but nope, we had the privilege of paying a premium.

That I agree with.

I agree with that idea. Import oil and store as much as we can. Save our own supply and if there is a problem with foreign supplies, we don't have to worry about it.

I won't consider gas prices to be down until they return to at least $2.50 per gallon. I remember buying gasoline as a teen for 12 cents per gallon during gas wars. When it went up to 35 cents I was upset then.

I lived in Connecticut for 54 years, where gas is more expensive than in most other states, but I did buy gas for 17 cents a long time ago.

That is not going to happen again.

I am not so full of the kool aid to believe that the President actually runs the price of the gasoline costs. I do know that the oil companies can, and probably do, use the prices against the President though, whoever that might be. Speculators are the problem.

http://money.cnn.com/2012/04/17/mark...tors/index.htm

How is that going?

*** Update*** I have discovered some documentation to shoot holes in my own theories...

http://www.telegram.com/article/2012...120629724/1002

http://www.forbes.com/sites/petercoh...-78-4-billion/

So gosh, I was incorrect. The President CAN influence oil prices afterall!

Hurricanes are supposed to affect the price, also.

Oil is now down to $85 and change.

So much for the hurricane effect. It MUST be President Obama and his policies. Good job, Mr. President.

just wait until after the hurricane....
(sounds like a convenient excuse to raise prices for no good reason to me)
