Shooting in Connecticut

As a former Ct. resident who sent three kids to Ct. schools, this incident beyond belief.

I'm freaking out a little bit here. I have a girlfriend that I know works in Newtown and she has twin boys that age. I can't for the life of me find her address. I'm so hoping she doesn't live in Newtown too.

Such a TRAGIC incident!!

Have to wonder how many lives could have been saved if some of those kids were "packing".

Such a horrific event. My thoughts and prayers are primarily with the families of Newtown but also with the first responders and my condolences to all the American people.

It seems like almost everyday, there is some tragic incident, this has got to stop. Even if one of the teachers was "packing", could of saved lives...

My heart is breaking all over again. Not so much for the kids, as they are safe now, but for the parents, and brothers and sisters of the children. They are yet to realize what a nightmare they are about to go through. It is a kind of pain I would not wish on anyone.

I tried turning the tv off, but couldn't stand not knowing. I am glad I was already packed for our trip, because I can't seem to get anything done.

Please send good thoughts and prayers to these families. They are going to need them.

This is soul wrenching. My granddaughter caught a snippet on tv,and I told her: they thought there may have been a fire, so they were leading the kids out of the school..Then, when Nikki, brought Aiden here from school, she was struggling to keep from crying,and hugged them both..

When will these senseless acts end...want to leave this earth? Go into a cave and do it....!!!!

I'm heartbroken. And I can't even join in the arguments any longer. I concede defeat. The best we can hope for is that this kind of fate won't visit us and those we love. Beyond that, all we can do is cry for the innocents who are killed by guns this day and every day, and for their dear families and friends.

Luanne, we all agree w/u wholeheartly. But, I also keep thinking how the classmates are affected and will further be affected whenever they go back to school and don't see their young friends. Especially if they go back to Hook Elementary where they saw friends lying in a pool of blood. These youngsters saw something that most people have never witnessed. 12/14/12 is a very very sad day for so many people of all ages.

I simply can not process this. I can't wrap my head around this tragedy.

There are really no words. We raised four children ourselves. We had moved and taken our daughter out of the Thorton HS in Oregon just before the mass shooting there many years ago.

I can not imagine what the parents and people of that community are going through.

That is facetiousness. They were little kids for***** sake.

That was what "some" were saying after the shootings in the theater in Aurora Colo; lives would have been saved if somone else had a gun, besides the shooter.

With this horrible incident, that thinking means now EVERYONE should carry a loaded gun, not only own one.

I have known Kuki for 7 and 1/2 years, and I knew what he was saying.

It is true that these babies should not have been armed, but we must soon think about giving the teachers more in order to protect our children.

As I have read the reports, I see that most of these teachers did everything I was always taught to do. Hide, quiet, and hope.

If suddenly all the guns were removed today, there would still be evil ones who could care less about laws.

What if a teacher down the hall had a gun. He or she heard the shots, and came to help. The shooter might have taken out a few, but one shot to the shooter, would it have been over before so many were lost?

My heart is still heavy from all the loss of life yesterday. I can tell you in detail, what the parents are feeling this morning.

My thoughts exactly, how this guy got guns is beyone me, there will always be people that get them that shouldn't....What if the principal or someone did have one??? Right now, they are debating carring and consealing laws in Illinois, many already have this...its a subject of great debate.....

This guy was mentally unbalanced. I did read somewhere that he was turned down for a weapon. If somebody's crazy and they snap, they'll find a weapon of some sort whether we want them to, or not. I also heard that his mother owned the gun he used.

Absolutely right! But can you kill 26 in under 4 minutes without one?

I believe guns are not necessarily evil. But they certainly do seem to get themselves involved in some very evil things.

One would think there should be some reasonable way to reduce the chances of that happening so often.

What happened in Connecticut was "beyond comprehension". It is sad to say that "security" has to be more strictly enforced in "public places". I mourn for all of the people that lost loved ones and for those who knew the families that were affected. May the memory of these children, and teachers be not forgotten.

Yes you can kill 26 people without a gun. These explosive vest wearing terrorists do it all the time.

In America, being a free society, there really is no way to defend against the actions of a crazed person. I do believe however that gun owners should be responsible and keep their guns locked up when not in use. While this might not of helped in this situation, it could possibly stop others. Guns can be ordered with bio metrics that allow the gun to only work when being in the hand of the owner. This would stop the use of stolen guns in crimes.
