Default Need some answers to questions that are bothering me.

1. Do persons who are going to become US citizens required to undergo physical tests for communicable diseases?
2. Do the military forces of the USA have racial quotas?
3. I read that there are FBI agents who spend their entire careers just doing background checks. Is this true?
4. Do employes of the Justice Department, NSA, FBI, CIA have to take psychiatric and/or lie detector tests to deterine their loyalty and mental stability?

1. Yes. Look here

2. No.

3. My understanding is that most of an FBI background check is done by clerks or specialists checking records and computer files, and calling the references you provided, not special agents. If the background check involves higher levels of security (i.e. granting a top secret clearance) special agents may personally interview people about you, but it is just an assignment and not a full time job for any particular special agent. In many cases it may not even be an FBI agent doing it, but rather an agent from another federal agency. They all have their own investigators.

4. It depends on the agency and level of clearance. Based on my experience with it as a retired federal employee who held various levels of security clearance over the years, every new federal employee or contractor who requires a clearance of some sort gets scrutinized psychologically, either by an exam such as the MMPI, or by an interview with a psychologist or psychiatrist, or both. I have no idea about the use of a 'lie detector' test as a routine thing.

Wow Dave, that is an impressive set of answers.

SD Diablo, I am curious as to why you took this burning set of questions to a cruise forum.

I came to the USA as an 11 year old with my parents. We had a medical physical exam before we were given a visa to come to the US.
When I became 18 years old I applied to become a citizen. No medical test was given at that time. I took a test in my knowledge of US history and about our government. I also had to prove that I could read and write in English.

Of course this happen some time ago and things may have changed.

They are very in depth questions. I would love to know the back ground as to why you asked.

Dave's responses were excellent and quite detailed. You ask why come to this Forum for information. It would be the same reason i go to a school, a church a synagogue to get infromation about a subject. As I have found on cruises you can get all kinds of information about all types of subjects from the cruisers who are generally more intelligent and more stable than the run-of-the mill cperson on the street and they are willing to expose themselves by giving their opiinion.

Most important i came to the forum because I want answers.
For instance. The military does not have racial quotas according to Dave. What does this mean? Well you have to look at what the composition of the military services will not reflect the population of the United States. Hypotheticaly this means their will be a higher proportion of white males in the military services. This does not bode well for the future of minorities in the military services since the military services because of the power structure will be top heavy with white males. In the past and in the education and private employement areas this imbalance of racial groups has meant government intervention by the imposition of arbitrary standards such as racial quotas. This kind of intervention probably will not be effective in the military services since other measures of capability like intelligence, experience and dedication are the some of the standards used for promotions. This is not a problem at this time because the military services does not have racial quotas. But to extend the idea of a white male dominated military service leads to the thought what happens if there is a national emergency, Is there a confrontation between the white males and minorities. Another effect of this military structure might be the the development of a white male political power leadership group. This may not be bad because the cream of the population will rise to the top which would be true of minorities and women.

Enough said about the reason for my question about racial quotas in the military. I like to think I have an inquisitive mind and as they say inquisitive minds want to know and without good input you can't make sound decisions.
