Default Obama does the right thing

Obama treads lightly amid chemical attack allegations in Syria
President Obama speaks reluctantly of possible U.S. military action, warning of 'costly interventions that actually breed more resentment in the region

Obama isn't letting the warmongers and the peaceniks push the US into the MiddleEast.

No I don't think he will do anything. All this talk about ships being moved into the area is probably just talk.

Are you still thinking that?

At least he hasn't rushed in like some Wild West presidents in the past. We don't need any more wag the dog wars.

What we need is buy in by other countries and no more of the unilateral BS.

I do think that, unless as I said, he does something to save face.

I am with you, we are war weary, and don't need another.

What kills me is all the leaks. No one, I mean no one, tells the enemy what you are going to do, and when. He is way out of his league on this one.

Having said that, I do worry that behind the scenes is another Holocaust, and we did nothing to stop it. I hope it isn't true.

Most likely something will be done before too long.

We don't need another war but it's coming whether we like it or not.

Leaks have existed since the beginning of time. The only thing that has changed is technology and the ability to spread at near the speed of light. Hello Internet and Cell Phones.

I do think something will be done - nothing to do with saving face. Hope it is in moderation. No need for boots on the ground, to make a statement.

Whatever happens, we have to have faith in President Obama to do the right thing. I would not want to be making these decisions.

It must be twice as hard for him, because of his heritage in the Muslim world.

I wonder how many times a day he thinks of what former President Bush had to go through. Do you think he understands now?

OY! ... indeed, it must be really difficult to keep hiding being a Muslim, and pretending to be a Christian.

There is a really fine (and difficult) line to determine which weapons are acceptable, and which are a "crime against humanity".

And, it's really tough for the U.S. to decide if they want to remain a "Super Power" or not.

The toughest part is that the U.S. (and the western world) really has no understanding of "the Arab world"; and their "norms" which have led to ages old wars between themselves, and all the different sects within the Muslim religion.

An example... don't forget Iran and Iraq were sworn enemies, before Iraq was "liberated" by the U.S. making Iran a "player" when before they were a nobody in that world.

A big problem is "the west" thinking about issues in that world, in terms of their own understanding of how "normal people" should and would react in the 21 century. In fact, the thinking in most of the Arab world is centuries behind, and because of that it's leaders are able to paint the U.S. and the west as the "devil" to their own people.

All the talk of how the U.S. could have handled Syria much better if they'd only move earlier, before Jihadists and Al Qaida joined the fight is just lip flapping as well. Those factions, or others similar to them existed all along. It was never a matter of a nation full of free thinkers taking over, and existing as a friend to the west.

From the beginning there were no good options, and there still aren't any.

The choices are to take action, or to just let them go on killing each other in all those regions, not just Syria.

Then, of course, problems arise about who might eventually gain control; who might get their hands on those chemical weapons, and.. if no action is taken.. does Iran feel it has a clear sign of inaction, to ramp up it's nuclear development program?

You're dealing with a world that doesn't think like the Western world, and nothing the west can do is going to change that.

I was afraid someone would say something, but I didn't think it would be you!! The President was born as a Muslim, the same as you were born Jewish. In both cases, it usually pertains to the father's belief.

That in no way means he has ever considered himself to be Muslim, although he talks about in his books how he relates to his father's heritage.

Believe it or not, there is nothing wrong with being Muslim.

Well, that puts you and me in the minority in this country, that's for sure.

I was just looking at a photo of Yasser El-Gabry, the guide we had for two weeks in Egypt a few years ago (before the troubles). We got to know him pretty well, and I wonder how he is doing. He's a multi-degreed Egyptologist, a linguist, a thinker, and a very sweet guy.

I always come back to what Mark Twain said. . ."If you travel, you don't know how to hate."

By religious belief, it actually pertains to the mother. As to one's own religious beliefs, it normally has to do with how you're raised, as well as one's own personal search and research in choosing a religion.

But, there is nothing in how he might "relate to his Muslim heritage" that would make his decision "twice as hard".

It is a mighty weight to choose to drop bombs, and kill anyone, and all the repercussions, known and unknown, that go along with that decision.

There's nothing about religious belief of any persuasion that directly affect that decision.

Guys I really didn't want to start anything, I was only trying to add to the discussion.

If you have read his book, and one written by his mother's best friend, you would know that she loved his father so much. She named her baby after his father, and his name and nationality was on his birth certificate. It is actually a very sweet/sad story.

He talks in great detail about his father, and his father's people. That made me think that he might have a better insight as to how they might view things.

I was never a "birther"" and didn't mean any harm about what I said.

You mentioned the mother. She didn't have a religion, so maybe that is another reason to give him his father's.
