We've shut down the government 18 times since 1976. Nothing new. Both parties have done it. Essential services continue. The military is getting paid. The post office is open. Those on Social Security still get their pensions. Medicare payments are still processed. Many other things will go on like normal. But you'd think the world was ending from the news reports of the national parks and museums having to close.

It is all to do with some pathetic cry baby losers grandstanding over OBamacare. They haven't got a snowball's chance in hell of overturning the wishes of the majority, but they pout nonetheless.

They will get what they deserve in the elections in the future and will only cry louder, albeit with fewer voices. They have only themselves to blame.

Why do we order drugs from Canada? Even WITH insurance in the US it can be cheaper to order from Canada.

I believe its "Vive LE Canada" not "Vive LA Canada".

Free education at its finest.

The world has survived many wars and disasters of all kinds.

We will be fine with our shutdown. Life goes on and the sun is still shining.

We may have stupidity in DC, but the USA is still my country of choice. I was not born here but I chose to live here and I am proud to be an American.
Now that I think of it I am also very happy to be a Floridian.

By the way Canada is a great country for sure but I see many cars and RV's with Canadian plates around this neck of the woods.
Of course you are all welcome to come and visit the ( Sunshine State )

Jennc - thank you! I've been wondering this same thing.

Manuel - we are way over-taxed in Canada. Everything (except drugs) is cheaper in the US. I can walk into any pharmacy in Canada and buy an epi-pen for $100 (I think for my son its about $75). I tried to do that in the US - and it was over $400. Other than, we all shop in the US to SAVE MONEY! Our tax here in Ontario is 13%. A ten dollar bottle of wine in the US can be a $30 dollar bottle of wine or more here. In the top income bracket, we pay close to 45% of our wages in income taxes, then of what's left we get charged 13% tax on our spending. If we invest the difference and it earns interest, we get taxed on that too.

Ship to Shore - our education here is not free! It's subsidized (by the crazy taxes we pay). But I believe you are correct and it is "le Canada".

Ruthlessboss - our doctors get educated here and then go south so they charge more and pay less in taxes.

Queen, I understand about the taxes.

One of the benefits of living in Florida is that they don't have a State income tax and no property on cars. The property tax on homes is also quite low.
