Default Obama shuts down another Non-government entity

Claude Moore Colonial Farm

This Colonial Farm of Virginia - which is a self-supporting site, not a government park system site, was ordered to shut down by the Obama administration. They are NOT funded by the government. Its just a dog & pony show to put hurt on the American people and blame the Republicans.

Seriously now - there is responsible government, and there is tyranny. When the government shuts down an innocent business purely as a show of force, in order to display to the American people that "actions have consequences" is that a government you trust?

Not me. That is tyranny to me. This is no different from what they did during the Sequester - slowing down Customs & border services, etc.

The truth is that this is the 27th government shutdown in the last 30 years - and this is the first time this farm has been shut down (just like Mt vernon). Also, in the past in almost every case the people who are sitting at home right now will receive back pay for the time they are sitting at home.

But not this farm (which is a private business tourist attraction). It has been shut down and may lose its business because they have been shut down during what is usually their peak earning season. The can't pay their bills and may lose their business. That is just sad, and pretty despicable.

If it wasn't so sad and scary, it would be funny. A little research would have told him and his people that some of the tourist attractions are not Gov.

I live about 5 miles from the park and it is, in fact, a national park. It is privately run (by contract), but it is a national park.

Not saying it's right or wrong to close it, just wanted to clarify that the story is incorrect in saying it's not part of the park system.

Haha, you know "facts" don't matter here. It's about who can make a bigger stink and cause the other to cave

Right, not to mention the distinctly defensible point of view that would argue that Congress did it, not "Obama." Obama has simply left Congress, specifically the House, to do its job, which it steadfastly refuses to do.

It's still silly, though. But then so is the whole shutdown.

Anybody in favor of 1) Draconian campaign finance reform; 2) An end to gerrymandering; 3) Direct popular election of the president; 4) Term limits on Senators and Congressmen????

You know, something practical??

I am concerned about the facts. I watched C-Span on Thursday and Friday and I watched the house pass 7 bills, which would begin to restore the gov. I then saw an interview of Harry Reid who was asked about those bills, and he said he wouldn't bring them up to a vote. Now, Who did you say was not doing their job?

The Republicans, Luanne. They will allow this, that, or the other to go through if they get their way. The point is they were the ones that shut down the government and blamed Obama and the Democrats over Obama care. Now they are saying that they will partially open the govt. if they cave in to their threats. Ah, no.The ACH, like it or not, was passed, became law, was upheld by Supreme Court, and has tried to be overturned countless times. Now that it's in effect, the Tea Party is hold the govt. hostage.

That seems to be the norm in most of these posts.
