Affordable Care Info (Not Political)

Okay, let's try something new that hopefully those who are reading will feel comfortable posting, without the politics.

The Affordable Care web site has been up a week now. I know that Z has signed up, and many of you have probably also either signed up, or took a peek.

What I would like to do is hear your experiences with the process. Was it difficult? Did you get what you needed? etc.

PLEASE remember!!! No politics!!!!!!

Just the facts

Luanne

I tried signing up in two different states and was unable to in either for the first few days but now things seem to be working better. There is still a pause between screens but you seem to get where you're going.

The system has not booted me or crashed while I have been accessing it.

All really small complaints when I know there are no 15 page medical history questionnaires to be filled out only to be rejected for pre-existing conditions. Pre-existing no longer exists. That I am guaranteed to be accepted and that I have a variety of plans to choose from. That help is available if I can't figure it out or if I need help in choosing a plan.

Thank you Z for starting us off. I hope you will stick around as others post, to maybe answer questions.

Thanks again

The only factors that seem to affect rates are: age, state, income, and type of coverage desired.

Reading what you wrote, does that mean that you have yet to decide which plan?

Can you give us the reason for your delay, if it's not to personal.

What's the rush? It isn't in force until Jan 1? I just wanted to make sure it is available and it is.

Haven't checked with doctors to see what plans they accept or their opinion of them. Haven't played around with the subsidy part. I wanted to see what the worst case was - about 20% more than current (expiring) group policy, and under the law, the new insurance has to include some additional benefits.

Also want to shop in other states. I have no particular loyalty to a state.

No new postings. Has anyone else applied, and would like to share your experience? Remember, no politics. This is just a chance for all of us to learn the dos and don't of the new system.

If you are self insured work with your sales representative if their company is in the exchange. I.e..(BCBS)..makes it alot easier and ensures on the changeover you can keep everything intact coverage wise

Two things, Luanne: first, the great majority of people who look at this board never post. Second, the entire ACA impacts only a small percentage of Americans (the number most often heard is 40 million). Therefore, it's logical that there will be few responses to your question posted here. The people here skew older, many are already on Medicare + Medigap, and the ACA just doesn't apply to them, so they're not part of the group seeking policies through the new plan.

Thank you AR. I hope you and your family are well.

I see that over 200 people have viewed this thread. I am so sorry that we don't have more info for you to read.

I have not experienced the pain of going on the web site, as for now, we still have our insurance, but I continue to hear more and more people who are having such a hard time.

I encourage all to share your experiences in you state, both good and bad.

zydecocruiser November 6th, 2013 11:11 AM

As a reminder, one does not have to go through the web site at all. The soonest the insurance could take effect is 1 Jan 2014 but that is not a deadline for signing up.

I suspect, like anything else, most will wait until the last possible second.

Z If you would, explain how you can shop in different states? Were you just checking them out, or can you pick a state?

I would think you need to reside in the state where you obtain insurance and that is where you would obtain most of your healthcare. I have no loyalty to a particular state.

In one state, I am eligible for over 100 plans on the Exchange, a number of which don't seem to include national coverage (other than perhaps emergency). I like being able to go into any Walmart in the US and get most prescriptions refilled.

Do transient people really have residency anywhere?

Luanne Russo November 7th, 2013 05:16 PM

So you are just looking at these other states? Not actually trying to purchase.

I reside in multiple states and could easily switch my primary residence from one to another. Some states are more progressive than others and some have lower health care costs than others.

Luanne Russo November 8th, 2013 05:11 PM

Z I heard yesterday that the quotes given right now are not the correct numbers. Have you actually registered, so that you can see real prices?

Yes. I only have about 111 plans to chose from. And that is just 1 state.

Luanne Russo November 11th, 2013 09:39 AM

Which state is that?

Luanne Russo November 14th, 2013 10:40 AM

ATTENTION!!!

For those who have not heard, the President will speak live at 11:35 Eastern on a fix for the problems with The Affordable Care Act!!!!!

Paul B November 14th, 2013 10:46 AM

Goody, I can't wait for more lies.

zydecocruiser November 14th, 2013 01:09 PM

I knew the non-political thread title was a lie.

I hope this was not intended for me. I watched and hope others did as well.

Would love to hear what others thought about what he said.

How could that be anything other than along political lines?

Luanne Russo November 14th, 2013 03:24 PM

Z please move on. Do you think President Obama's new plan will make things better?

zydecocruiser November 14th, 2013 03:44 PM

I've decided not to participate further in what has turned into yet another anti-Obama thread.

Luanne Russo November 14th, 2013 04:17 PM

I understand. Take care of your self.
