Syria these days is awash with arms being funneled to “rebels” by countries advocating regime change.
A list of the top 24 countries, among the more than three dozen that are currently involved in sending weapons to Syria to achieve regime change include: USA, Iraq, Lebanon, Israel, Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Bahrain, UK, France, Canada, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Brazil, Portugal, Poland, Yugoslavia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, and Argentina.
President Obama has pledged Syrian rebels support. but is the support restricted to the FSA? The FSA, set up with the backing of Western and regional powers in an attempt to unite the different armed groups and isolate what were seen as extremist elements, The FSA are getting missiles to destroy tanks according to the media. So far it has not been announced that the USA and its NATO and its Mideast partners are not supplying Manpods -portable air-defense systems to rebels in Syria. The weapons are already available through the Syrian weapons market so it doesn't really matter whether Obama and Kerry make statements that Manpods are not being supplied to the radical rebels.
However the recent development that the Islamic Front has been formed. Seven major Islamist rebel groups battling President Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria have announced a merger to form an "Islamic Front" and pledged to build an Islamic state in a post-Assad Syria. (Note this statement: "build an Islamic state." To me this means a nondemocratic state. which should not be risked especialy after the experience in Libya and Egypt. ) The Islamic Front spokesman said it would cooperate with all “loyal fighters” in Syria and that it would work with the Free Syrian Army (FSA). The term "loyal fighters" translates to all jihadists including al-Queda members.
So the question remains will the Obama administration claim that they will make sure that the supplies, weapons and financial aid given to the FSA will not make its way to the Al Queda and other jihad groups.
It happened in Libya.
Of course, I have not seen that the administration is not claiming that they are not supplying Manpods to the rebels which is a hotbutton with the American public who realize that these weapons can be used against civilian aircraft. However, this is a moot point since supplying the finances to purchase the Manpods on the weapons market makes them available to the rebels.
The next question is what happens if the jihadists win in Syria, the answer is they will set up an Islamic state which will support the overthrow of the USA., another base for terrorists to train and launch attacks.
What is the Obama administration answer to this development????
