Default Key west on your own any ideas?

What can you do for a day in Key West without taking a ships excursion. Is Hemingway house interesting or boring? I love cats. How about Jimmy Buffets bar? Any other ideas? I love wild life, history, ghost tours and unusual quirky stuff.

The trolley tour is a good way to see the area and you can get off and on. You can buy tickets near the dock. I liked the shops at the south point marker.

Lots to do in Key West....

You can walk Duval St... pick up some livations at one of the establishments and start walking. Lots of shopping and can always stop for a refill at another hot spot. There are some really neat bars along the street including Hogs Breath, Sloppy Joes... the Garden of Eden( a real eye opener!!) and many chains .. Hard Rock, Fat Tuesdays... and Margaritaville.....etc.

Once you get to the eastside of the street... head down to the southern most point for your required photo op!!

Mallory Square (where the ship docks) will have lots to offer...shopping.. sight seeing tours and such. If you don't want to do a ships excursion... which I wouldn't recommend... checkout the internet for Key West... there is alot to do and see in Old Town. www.keywest.com will have links to many of the things to do on the island. 8) 8)

In my trips to KW i have never done the Hemingway House... so cannot speak for it. Might be interesting if you are into the history stuff.

Lots of things to do in Key West. I have been there many times. I great party place.
If you like history go the "Little White House" for the tour of President Trumans home. www.trumanlittlewhitehouse.com very interesting! Hemmingway house; www.hemmingwayhome.com is good too and the Audubon bird home it is at www.audubonhouse.com
There is a book on the shelves or you library called. "Florida Keys and Key West" I have read it every time we go there. Let me know what you are interested in, I'll look it up for you.
Some of the things are free &some cost a few bucks.
I relly enjoyed the Mel Fisher maritime heritage www.melfisher.org he found wreck of the Nuestra Senora di Atocha which was ladenwith gold and silver worth millions.

I found the Southern White House that Truman used very interesting. Also liked the Mel Fisher Museum - great when you know the adventurer's story.

Saw Hemmingway house - It was interesting, but did not make an impression.

the Hemmingway house is ok..Its not a long tour...but when you get done with the tour you get a complimentary drink, and you get to use their swimming pool all day there so that is definatley a plus! Theres a few beaches surrounding that area also so you could go swimming. A few of the beaches are kinda rocky so be careful of that. Make sure you get a picture at the Southern Most point of Florida (90 miles to cuba).

Default No pool

To the best of my knowledge, you DO NOT get to use the Hemingway pool. In fact, I have never heard of anyone swimming in it.
