New ship...Biggest yet for P&O
Not of great interest here I suppose as the as yet unnamed vessel will be based in the UK...but anyway....

IMHO - a HUGE mistake.
Judging by the amount of deals available from SOTON - I did not think there was the demand - but hey ho I am probably wrong :) All the British cruisers I know live north of London and will not consider SOTON/Dover or Harwich - it is easier to fly to Europe with the bonus of avoiding the Bay of Biscay or English Channel. Sounds like the same passenger load and gross tonnage as the new Royal Princess scheduled for 2013. Princess has another scheduled for 2014 and this is probably the 2015 build. I wonder how many of these they will build?

Agreed John,if you look at the artist images they are essentially the same, although for some reason the P&O liveried version has 2 sets of funnels. No idea what that's about. I only hope they are following Celebrity's lead & putting solar cells on every piece of flat upward facing non-passenger area. Alan |
Shame that there is nothing original about this new P&O vessel just like Cunard's new lack of design originality???

I guess when it could cost hundreds of thousands to come up with a new format & run the risk of getting it wrong that the bean counters stick with a "winning" design. Not that that did Rennaisance much good :( Alan |
I thought it looked like a "solstice" class??
As our last two cruises have been on Eclipse & Azura we are fans of the bigger ships now, can't imagine going on a ship with one place to eat & one entertainment venue, especially on a cruise with lots of sea days, may even consider a transatlantic or round trip Caribbean on one. |
