Default "Alternative Dinning Charges"

Can anyone tell me why and what Princess means when they say: "Alternative Dinning Charges" aply if not eating in the main dinning room. Saw this in the "fine print" and I was told by my TA that it is an extra charge foe NOT eating where you are supposed to be. Thanks

I would think this applies to the Grand Princess, where they have Sabitin's and the Painted Dessert for alternate restuarants.
It I remember correctly the charge was $5/person (service fee/tip) charged to our onboard account.
There is NO additional charge for the 24 hr dining in the Lido deck restaurants.

Kuki,

You are correct. The waitstaff in The Painted Desert and Sabatini's don't receive tips directly, so Princess instituted the surcharge ($3.50 per person if I remember correctly) essentially as a gratuity for the waitstaff. I presume that the alternative restaurants aboard MV Golden Princess will have the same surcharges.

For anybody who wants to eat in either alternative restaurant aboard MV Grand Princess, I recommend doing so for lunch rather than for dinner. I would not want to miss dinner in the main dining room aboard any Princess ship!

Norm.
