Default Thinking About Alaska 2001

We are thinking about Alaska on Princess next year. I'm still waiting for the brochures to arrive, but in the mean time, does anyone know what's new for 2001?

I've heard that in addition to the usual land tours, they will also be offering a more independent program where you can stay at their resorts, but you get a rental car so that you're not locked into the bus tours. The buses are not very appealing to me and I like the idea of a less structured format.

Dawn,
In 2001 Princess is offering the transfer between Seward and Anchorage (or vice versa) by rail.
Buses are not appealing to me either, but this was one transfer I didn't mind on a bus .... I believe it takes aprox. 2 hrs. longer on the train, but for the same price this part may be what you're looking for on this part of your trip.

Take a look at Toursaver.com for great bargins in the ports of call. I used them this May and saved a ton of money.

But the train is much more beautiful than the bus. It will be my choice on my next Alaska cruise and yes, Princess is offering the option of rent a cars between their resorts. Great idea.

I didn't write it very well, but what I was trying to say was - It's a beautiful transfer on a bus, the train would be even better. If I remember correctly, they are aprox. the same price. The bus takes 3hrs., and I read somewhere the train will take 2 hrs. longer. I would definately take the train.

My husband and I just made reservation to Cruisetour on August 22 with Princess. We'll be on the Sun Princess. I've never been to Alaska, but am looking forward to it. I haven't cruised since our honeymoon 37 years ago, so this will be something special for us both. Anybody been on the Sun Princess? How did you like it? Any tips on the Optional Land tours?
