We're taking a cruise on the Grand Princess and have tentatively booked an outside balcony room on the Caribe deck. We heard that the plus is that the Caribe decks are larger than the other decks. Is this true? Also, is there any privacy on these decks (is there any partial covering from the decks above)? Lastly, do you think this is a good deck to be on, or can you suggest the "best" deck (sun, privacy, view, etc.)? Thanks!
I havent been on the Grand, but from what I've read (and from what is apparent on deck plans), the balconies on Caribe are much larger. They also offer privacy in that unlike on other decks, aprox. the back 1/3 is underneath the balconies on Baja. If I ever get a balcony stateroom on the Grand I will go for one on Caribe.
You definitely chose the right deck. When we did the Grand last year, our cabin was on Caribe and was rated BD. We'll be doing her again in a few weeks, but Princess wised up - the same cabin is now BB. Guess why? The balconey on Caribe deck is far better than on any of the others. About 1/2 is totally (or almost totally) private, with the Baja/above balconey giving you this privacy and also some shade. The rest of the balconey is sunny - best of both worlds! Princess wanted to bump us 'up' to a mini-suite, but we refused. You'll see why, once you look over the railing and down to Dolphin deck, which where most of the mini-suites are (also Emerald deck). If you like balconey cabins, this may be the largest balconey you will ever get (makes up for the kind of small cabin).
