Default El San Juan Hotel

Has anybody recently stayed at the El San Juan Hotel in PR? Better yet, anybody book through Princess and do it? I'm just generally curious about the hotel (have read great things) and what type of room you get at this hotel when you book through Princess. A couple of years ago I booked a hotel through Princess in Seattle. I was underwhelmed. I wasn't able to beat their price though so I did book through them for 2 nights prior to the Sun's 1/8 sailing. Would love to hear any and all comments.

We were at the El San Juan Hotel three weeks ago and it is still great. This was at least our 10th stay there and it has been well maintained and is still well run.

We have booked independently and through cruiselines and have found no difference....go with the best price. Aside from suites, most of the rooms have very similar lay out with the exception being full balconies on some rooms and not on others. Ask for whichever you prefer when you register.

If you have never been there, or not been there recently, there are two very good restaurants. Picollo is an Italian restaurant..very elegant with Versace service plates, beautiful table settings, and lovely service. It is very samll and tables are very close together but it works ok. Great food.
Also, for beef lovers, the national chain The Palm has opened there and we had a great dinnr. he prime rib is about the size of half a cow...really good and they have wonderful steaks...also huge lobsters. Recommend reservations for both.
Great patio area (as well as inside seating) for breakfast by menu or buffet. Expensive ($20 pp) but good.
Beautiful pool and patio b'que and burgers, salads etc, bar service available at pool.

Probably far more info than you wanted, but just trying to be helpful.

I was just there yesterday & it looked great. Now granted I wasn'y staying there . . .We had booked the post-cruise resort afternoon- they took us to the InterContinental for the day-pool, beach access, lunch, secure room for stuff-access to a hotel room if you want to rest or shower. The IC is about a block from the Wyndam El San Juan- we strolled down there and it was beautiful- Very swanky lobby, tobacco shop with $$$ cigars, candy shop with a small selection of Godiva chocolates, Signature shop with logo stuff. I bought a SACKFUL of heavy cotton terry tops & a swimsuit coverup- $5 each- they all say El San Juan Hotel- the name has officially changed to Wyndam & they're practically giving away stuff with the old logo. I know logo stuff is usually overpriced, but this stuff was originally $40-50.
Anyway we were sorry that we weren't able to book a pre-cruise stay at this hotel-we put it on the list for our next cruise out of San Juan.

Happy sailing, web

Hi: Not sure about the El San Juan but we booked the post cruise excursion at the Inter-continental right next door for Sat 11-25-00. It was Fabulous. Nice beach and nice bars and ok casino. Rooms were nice as well. I think its was the best excursion we had all week. Note: We did not stay over night.

You'll probably get a standard double room, the same if you booked through Princess or a travel agent. Unless you specifically book a suite, they're all idential in this hotel (a stunning property). It will be located in the main tower. As far as location in the hotel, the only difference will be view.

One difference may be price. It may be less -- or more -- through one of the discount hotel services on the internet.
