Hi Mike & Debbie,
We went on Ocean Princess earlier this year and absolutely loved this ship, you are in for a suprise. Everything was first class, service, food, entertainment.
Here is a members review to help you get a feel for the ship:
I second what Donna said. MV Ocean Princess is truly a class act. I have posted extensive comments in other threads on this board, so I won't duplicate them here. You might also want to review comments about MV Sun Princess, MV Dawn Princess, and MV Sea Princess, all of which are sisters of, and therefore virtually identical to, MV Ocean Princess.
Mike& Debbie: All I can say is be ready to feel like you are Royalty. We were on the Dawn, her sister ship this Nov...our first cruise. Unbelievable. Don't miss "Island Night" Like champagne? Go the art auction but leave your wallet in your safe! Like Disco? Get read to "Do the hussle" well...ok...maybe a stretch there as...aaaa...I think I heard newer music...but if the there is a band in the Horizon Court...its a great place to dance, eat go out on deck or just listen....ok I ramble. Have a great cruise.
We missed the Pub Night thing. We were feeling so nostalgic that all we wanted to do was walk around the Promenade deck. We could see San Jaun's lights in the distance and I think we were feeling sad knowing that 24 hrs from that moment we would be on the main land. Have scheduled our next cruise for April 2002 but........I might push for a New Years Eve cruise.....we will see.
Mike/Debbie: We did a one week cruise in 97' on the Sun Princess, which is the identical (other than art work, decor, etc) to the Ocean Princess. We are also booked for a Southern Caribbean cruise on the Ocean Princess 2/24/01. Although these are large ships (70k+ tons ea.), they are layed out in such a fashion that you can always find a private place to relax, read, etc. There is so much to do on the ship (and off) that you can easily become overly tired. Would recommend a nap occasionally. The casino slot machines are very tight, don't expect to win big bucks. We got some great deals in St. Thomas on camera equipment and jewelry but don't buy at the first shop you come to-look around. Most people tend to pack too much on their first cruise-remember that the temp. is normally in the mid 80s' year round in the Caribbean and shorts and casual clothing are the rule during the daytime. We are west coast people so plan to fly in a day early and stay at a nice hotel in San Juan. We also paid extra to route our flight through Atlanta because of the weather trends in the NE this winter. In general, we think Princess does a great job with their cruise ships. We have sailed on Norwegian and Royal Caribbean and feel Princess a just a cut above the rest. Final note, I am not hearing good things about Caracas-don't know if this is on your itinerary? I hear the traffic from ship to city is bad, not very safe outside your tour group. We plan to just stay on the ship that day and relax, read, etc. Would love to hear about your experience with the Ocean Princess, particularly Caracas and Dominica upon return-have a great trip!
