I'm taking the Grand Princess Eastern Caribbean cruise in February and would like to rent a car while I'm on St. Maarten. It seems that there aren't any car rental agencies in the area where the ship's dock. Would love some advice.
You may just want to hire a cab to driver you around, seems to me they also drive on the wrong side of the road, not easy for us to do well. You should be able to see both side of the island and the cab drivers we encountered had a vast amount of knowledge about the island, very interesting.
I was thinking about the same thing as we ahve been to St. Martin 3 times now, but from previous land experience, the roads are rough, gas stations are far and few in between and traffic can be frustrating. Take a taxi to Orient Beach, then on your return have the driver take you back through Marigot, Grand Case and the Coastal areas for a snapshot tour of the island. Let me know what you end up doing as we are on the Grand mid-March.
We have rented a car twice once while on a cruise and the other time for a week stay in St. martin. They drive on the same side of the road as we do so that would not be a problem. I arranged a rental through a local company and he met me at the pier with my car. I have rented from him twice. E-mail me if you would like his e-mail address and his website. I think we paid like $40.00 for the day automatic vehicle with air conditioning.
I would love to have the car rental information from you. I am planning to rent a car in St, Maarten because we truly love the French side for eating and shopping. Any other helpful hints or suggestions about the French side would be appreciated.
