Having read that Princess is trasnferring the Ocean Princess to P and O I was wondering if anyone knows how the new Coral Princess is going to compare to her sister ships like the Sun,Dawn etc. and does Princess have anything on its website about the Coral Princess with deck plans, cabin layout etc.
Coral is a totally new design. Word is she will feature more natural daylight for one. Due to new regulations regarding lifeboat placement, looks like there will be fewer obstructed-view cabins. Also, it is said she will feature emergency escape slides... similar to what is used on airplanes.
From what I've read... I bet her exterior will look something like the new Crystal ship... of which there are artist renderings available.
That's right; the magic numbers are 88,000 tons and 1950 passengers. Additionally, MV Coral Princess and MV Island Princess are designed to "Panamax" specifications so they will be able to transit though the Panama Canal.
I have heard members of the cruise staff refer to these vessels as "Baby Grands" -- meaning that the basic design is a scale-down of MV Grand Princess. These comments apperently reflect hte information that they have received from corporate headquarters. The same individuals were very quick to identify several of the problems in the layout of public spaces aboard MV Grand Princess (which I won't describe again since I have listed them in prior posts). As both a stockholder in the company and a frequent Princess passenger, I really hope that somebody at headquarters is taking notes from the shipboard staff and passengers of what does NOT work well aboard MV Grand Princess due to the layout problems and configuring the new ships accordingly.
